We Give Up: Hummer Sponsoring Earth Day Coverage
Seriously GM, we try and give you guys a break from how poorly you’re portrayed on the nightly news, but you really shoot yourselves in the foot sometimes. Like today, when, while on Twitter, I came across the banner of Weather.com, one of the most popular websites around.
Today’s Earth Day sponsor appears to be Hummer.
I can’t believe Hummer is still spending money on advertising, let alone ad spends for Earth Day. I can only guess GM had this purchase in place long ago and that it rotates brands in that spot, but each time I went to the site, the Hummer logo displayed. There are also Cadillac ads and promotions for GM’s Total Assurance Confidence program running in other spots on the Weather.com site, which perhaps backs up the rotating ad-spend theory. Still, perception is reality, and it looks to the average Joe, or Twitterer, like GM is throwing money away here.

This is news to critique webpage banner advertising?
BTW it is currently Cadillac up there.
BTW, did you read the entire article H? DT acknowledges the banner rotates brands in the sponsor position.
Be that as it may ... I think it's humorous.
This coming from the same site that ran photos of the Challenger SRT8 under the caption "Take that Earth Day."
Nick,
Seriously? Who did that?
"each time I went to the site, the Hummer logo displayed"...letting him know that it did rotate and would it have been "newsworthy" if DT saw this ad when Cadillac was displayed?
BTW it's GM Total Confidence...Assurance is the Hyundai tagline.
H,
thanks don't know how I confused the two. Been a long few days.
It's probably in some package deal GM got in advertising multiple brands for the Total Confidence plan.
So Cars.com creates the news rather than just reporting it - Nice, real Nice. From your own words, "...we try and give you guys a break...". How about just reporting the news?
It's bad enough that you sensor posts that don't agree with your point of view. I've read plenty of posts in the past few days only to see them disappear over night. It's very disappointing to say the least.
Scott,
Are you upset because the stories haven't been addressing your point of view? People normally don't get defensive unless that's the case IMO.
I'm pretty certain GM knew the Hummer was on the advertisement. At this pint in the game even negative advertisement is better than nothing for GM.
Scott,
I think you meant to say, "censor," as opposed to your faulty oxygen "sensor."
@Dave T.
I can't imagine. http://twitpic.com/3rwro.
i think it's not good that we didn't realized how they spend too much for it. Do we think GM's profit margin is really big enough?
We have only removed 1 IP address from the comments recently. And that was due to their behavior and bad language. Not complaining about us. There has been lots of back and forth going on however it is all still there in black and white for you to read.
Nick,
I didn't say the days were "bad" just "long"
;)
