Cars.com Reviews the 2009 Toyota Yaris

09Yaris This is the first time Toyota will offer its subcompact, the Yaris, as a four-door hatchback. Cars.com reviewer David Thomas test drove the hatchback to find out if it offered any advantages over the Yaris sedan or subcompacts from Nissan and Honda. What he took away from the 2009 Yaris will likely weigh on your car-buying decision. Hit the link for his full review.

Toyota cars are great and this Yaris also looks cute, but for me this car is to small.

dave t.,

did you miss the cup holders in the dash? there's one to the left of the steering wheel for the driver and one on the far right for the passenger. i rented a yaris a couple months back and was at first confused by the lack of cup holders until i discovered the ones in the dash. i liked the location, but wondered what would happen if i had a hot coffee up there and ran over some rough pavement or a tall speed bump.

Toyota's are good cars. My problem with the Yaris is the comment in the review where it said "No way could I live with its poor ergonomics and uncomfortable seating." My Camry has these things in spades. Of course it doesn't get the gas milage of 35 mpg. But as far a value goes. I would probably tend to buy a used Camry before a new Yaris. However for those who want a small car for short distances. This car would not be bad choice.

David Thomas's complaints about the Yaris are odd compared to other reviewers. First, the claim of poor ergonomics is a bit overblown: There are 2 cupholders on the outboard sides of the dashboard. How was this missed? Given the considerable amount of space Dave takes criticizing this, he ought to have looked a bit more thoroughly. And if there weren't a lot of little cubbies, would he have complained about the lack of storage? This is also the first review I have read that labels the seats as uncomfortable; some car reviewers loved them. What most reviewers have complained about, however, is the awkward driving position due to a lack of telescopic adjustments for the steering wheel.

That said, it is nice to finally see a car reviewer recognize the decent powertrain, handling, and interior materials that this car has.

Wow I like the design of this 09 Toyota Yaris. But it is somewhat similar to Ford Focus? Because of the hatchback thing. lol but overall, still I prefer Yaris because of its features and quality.
