iPhone to Add Turn-By-Turn Features This Summer
Just a few days ago, we reviewed the first turn-by-turn navigation app for the iPhone. Today, Apple announced it will allow application developers to use the Google Maps platform to create a new breed of turn-by-turn apps. While no developers have announced they've begun creating an application to utilize the new developer tools, iPhone and iPod Touch users this summer will be able to download the new iPhone 3.0 operating system that will support future Google Map navigation applications. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on news of developers who are creating these new navigation apps.
Also, Apple announced A2DP support, allowing stereo audio to be broadcast via Bluetooth. While this may sound technical and not exciting to many, Toyota’s latest upgraded stereos, found in the new Venza and the upcoming Prius, support this ability to broadcast high-quality audio directly to your car with no wires.

If you want to utilize turn-by-turn you have to BYOM (Bring Your Own Maps). This means that a company like Garmin or TomTom, etc., could sell you maps and an app that can utilize the turn-by-turn features of the iPhone. Apple merely provides the APIs to access the GPS hardware to make app development easy.
