EPA Rates 2010 Chevy Camaro V-6 at 29 MPG on Highway

Camarohighway The 2010 Camaro’s EPA mileage ratings are now official, and they leave little doubt that even the entry-level Camaro will be a force to be reckoned with. In its most fuel-efficient configuration, the 304-hp V-6 Camaro is rated at 18/29 mpg city/highway with the optional automatic transmission, while the standard manual is rated at 17/29 mpg.

Stepping up to the 426-hp manual V-8 SS, ratings are 16/24 mpg. The 400-hp automatic V-8 SS gets 16/25 mpg.

Compared with other new-age muscle cars like the Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang, the Camaro’s ratings are impressive. It matches the Challenger SRT8’s power ratings, but that version of the Challenger gets 13/19 mpg with its standard automatic. The manual V-8 Mustang, which lags the Camaro in power ratings by more than 100 hp, is rated at 16/24 mpg.

We’ll have to wait and see how these ratings translate to real-world numbers, but in our experience EPA ratings are close to actual mileage.

Six-cylinder versions of the Camaro run on regular gasoline, while the V-8 recommends premium.

I thought the SS was suppose to be the Camaro’s top of the line trim, but I’m hearing the Z28 was have over 550 horsepower. What gives?

Ken L.

Sorry, I meant "will have over 550 horsepower."

I read that the Z28 has not been given the green light yet because of GMs current situation. It may never materialize.

I forgot the challenger srt8. 0-60 in 4.7 1/4 in 13.1

Those mileage ratings are impressive. I was at the auto show recently, and noticed that a base model PT Cruiser (automatic) achieved 16/24 with just the base engine. The turbo model achieved similar mileage I believe.

This article doesn't surprise me, I had a 1999 Z28 (LS1 v8)and I swear I got around 24 MPG on the highway - and I didn't drive it gently. I really want to get the Challenger SRT8 I think I will have to take a look at the Camaro SS again, maybe a little more competition will drive the Challenger prices down...
