Ford Transit Connect Wagon a Work Compromise
Ford’s European work wagon, the Transit Connect, will land on U.S. shores this summer. While it’s predominantly a vehicle for businesses, there will be a wagon version with a second row of seats that can fit either two or three, for a total of four or five passengers. There is no third-row option, and the Transit is much smaller than a full-size Dodge Sprinter. So if you’ve seen “Jon & Kate Plus 8” load the sextuplets and twins into their Sprinter, don’t fantasize about getting a similarly large brood into a Transit.
If you’re a small-business owner who needs a work vehicle to haul family in a pinch, though, the second row of the wagon does fold up compactly to allow for some significant storage space. Check out a few more photos of the Transit Wagon below.

Let's hope they remember to bring over the manual transmission and diesel engine also.
I recall seing this at the State Fair of Texas Auto Show. If I recall it is based on the Focus. Does anyone know for sure? Might be cool to see one of these pimped out with wheels and custom paint. I can see folks gearing up some sounds systems in this for product display at SEMA.
There are certain vehicles I wouldn’t even touch, particularly those that are tall and narrow due to roll over concerns.
Yes, bring it with a manual tranny please! And a direct injection turbodiesel too? I'm getting excited. I drove a Focus wagon in Italy with the turbodiesel and fully loaded it had power and economy. Add tons of room for my muddy mountain bikes and I'm in heaven!
The Transit Connect is based on the previous generation Fiesta. It is a bit longer, the plastic inside is a lot worse (read: rock hard) and the back end does not have fancy suspension.
They generally do not come with the nicer diesel engines the Focus gets. They get the older, noisier, slower models as people who buy cars like this do not care about things like this. They want utter reliability to cope with a life of abuse.
They are very handy little vans for people who do not need all the space a sprinter provides or ideal cheap transportation for large families on a budget. The third target group is those who want a spacious car and do not care about the looks or performance.
I doubt anyboday that looks at a webpage about cars will ever want to be seen dead driving one as a family runabout. I have used them on construction sites, full up with survey gear and wooden stakes etc. etc. And they work very well as a work horse, but it's no showpony...
Biggest thing in the US with that gas mileage - perfect timing.
