Driving the 2010 Ford Fusion Home From Detroit

Fusiongrilles
Mike Hanley and I drove a 2008 Ford Fusion through a snowstorm to Detroit on Saturday from Chicago. It was a rough drive, but it gave me a nine-hour refresher course in the outgoing model. That’s a good thing, because I’m driving a brand-new 2010 Ford Fusion on the way home today -- coincidentally enough, just in time for a blizzard warning.

I’ll be writing a full review of the new Fusion later, but want to detail the trip and immediate differences between the two models here on the blog. If there’s anything you want to know about the 2010, leave a comment. And wish me luck as I take to the road.

Good luck with the roads!

Here's my question: I test drove an 09 Fusion a couple of weeks ago and was quite impressed with the ride quality and isolation from road noise. However, fit an finish, particularly on the doors, was unimpressive--sharp, unfinished edges. Has that been improved? Secondly, height was also an issue. The roof was low enough that my head rubbed. Do taller drivers fit, now?

C

Which route did you guys take?

John

LUCKY!!!!
i have a question
will you post the gas millage you recorded?

just got in trip computer said 29 mpg. but I was going michigan speed, 70 is legal

Ben

Which engine does your test 2010 have? The four or one of the sixes (or even the hybrid)?

sheth

I want to know about the engine refinement. The current car was knocked for thrashy engine noise at higher RPMs and was considered less than competitive with the Japanese in this regard. Has Ford addressed this?

Dave T.,

"Mike Hanley and I drove a 2008 Ford Fusion through a snowstorm to Detroit on Saturday from Chicago."

Now really can you call it a snowstorm? I think that is some shoddy journalism. And I mean a blizzard warning? What are you trying to say, a Ford can't handle the weather? I am so tired of people putting down American cars just because they can't handle the weather. All you do is add to this hype. I want a full review now!

shet,
I may live in texas where snow is rare, but the silver car in the pic above does look like it was driven through some pretty nasty weather. Plus, as a domestic car owner and a fan of fords, I don't know how prodctive it is for you to attack every negative thing (or even percieved negative) said about them. The cars are great, but no car- domestic or import, is perfect.

Sheth,
Last Saturday around metro Detroit had 9-12 inches of snow. If that is not what you call a snow storm, I wish to know your definition of snow storm.

Mart

Where did they say the Ford couldn't handle the weather? Nowhere! it was rough drive simply down to the weather, not the car. And I dunno wher eyou are located, but I am here in Chicago and it is BRUTAL here right now. The fact they made it in comfort is great. I'm looking forward to hearing the comparison between the old and new versions.

J/Broq,

I did not write that stuff. I dont know why you are responding. In case you missed it some fool is trying to mock me my posting over the top comments insulting the editors. I dont if he's a relative of one of the bloggers or just a moron. Either way, its not me.

G

I'm really anxious about the review...will we be able to get your impressions soon? :D

Is the 2010 Fusion the Hybrid one? (I wonder if all 2010 Fusion will be hybrid, in fact, didn't find the answer)

Sunny

I am about to buy the 2010 Fusion and I saw lost of comments of snow drivability issues. Can you tell me if some of these issues are resolved in 2010 model? Thanks
