What We Want For Christmas

Xmaswishes

It’s that time of year and we figured we’d ask the editorial staff here at Cars.com what they wanted for Christmas and/or Hanukkah. Oh, we didn’t ask what they wanted under the tree/menorah, no we asked what they’d like to see in new cars in the coming year. Here’s what we’re hoping for:

“I want to see a matte paint finish offered as well as a clear coat glossy finish on cars as it’s a classy look that would add some charm to the overall design.” Ian Merritt, staff photographer

“I’d like to see a MP3-compatible USB plug become the standard in car audio, much like the CD did earlier this decade.” David Thomas, senior editor

“I’d like to see more hatchbacks/wagons, plus more manual transmissions.” Bill Jackson, Weekend Athlete/Buying Guides editor

“I’d like to see Google Maps and street view integrated into an in-car navigation system.” Matt Raskin, data editor

“I’d like to see tilt and telescoping steering wheels standard.” Lindsay Bjerregaard, multimedia producer

“I’d like a Suzuki X-Head (shown above), please.” Mike Levine, PickupTrucks.com editor

“I’d like to see a low-speed accident prevention system standard on every car.” Sarah Gersh, multimedia producer

“Those ‘green driving gauges’… you know what I mean? The readouts that tell you how efficiently you’re driving.” Steve Markley, assistant editor

“I’d like to see tilt/telescoping steering wheels in all cars.” Mike Hanley, editor

“I’d like to see all cars have sliding/extendable sun visors. By federal mandate, if necessary.” Kelsey Mays, editor

“All cars should have electronic stability control and six airbags by now.” Colin Bird, intern

“I want the following cars to be available with a true stick and pedal, gear-grinding, clutch-dropping manual transmission: Nissan GT-R, Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, Dodge Charger SRT8 and Pontiac G8 GT.” Joe Bruzek, Ask.cars.com

“I’d like to see more of the interior color changing lights like Ford has in the Focus and in many Scions. Brings me back to my high school days of ‘installing’ the cigarette lighter-powered neon lights in my car.” Matt Avery, multimedia producer

“Maybe it's the season, but universal remote start or an assistant to start my cars for me and warm them up would be my pick.” Joe Wiesenfelder, senior editor

I'd like a manual tranny in my Rogue or a regular cab, 6spd Frontier with a diesel like they sell in other markets.

I'd like a manual tranny for my Rogue or a single cab, 6spd Frontier with a diesel.

Doesn't the G8 GT already come with a manual transmission.

I think we need to have a list of what manufacturers need to stop offering as standard and start offering as options. And, for that matter, offering fewer options. I mean, really, do all cars (most cars) need to come standard with power windows or have heated seats as an option.

Joe Bruzek

The G8 GT isn't available with a manual, but the pricier GXP has it as optional equipment.

I'd like blind spot avoidance on every vehicle standard. Or something that will stop people from staying in my darn blind spot for over 20 miles.
