Cars.com Reviews the 2009 Pontiac G5

Cars.com reviewer Kelsey Mays refuses to jump on the bash-American-automakers bandwagon. He sees GM, for instance, as making a number of products that are competitive with any automaker around, but that doesn't mean he won't point out its misses when he sees them. The 2009 Pontiac G5 happens to be one of those vehicles that doesn't quite hit the mark, for a number of reasons. To understand why — not to mention which G5 competitors get it right — read his full review below.

Mike

Who provided the car Avis or Enterprise?

I've always looked at the Pontiac G5 as a sportier and little bit classier version of the Cobalt. Of course I am comparing an apple to an orange there, so take it for what it's worth.

Mike,

Answer is Chevy.

And to think when the Cobalt was introduced,Bob Lutz stated that finally GM had a competitive car in the small car field,as compared to what they previously offered (Cavalier) which wasnt competitive at all.Strange,Cavalier was a top seller for almost 21 years....Cobalt and G5 wont nearly be able to say the same.

What about the terribly small greenhouse of these cars? A roof thats squished down and front and rear glass thats at extreme angles doesnt allow for much visibility.Compare a 2 door Cobalt/G5 to an old K-car.The K offers near control tower visibility, the Cobalt/G5 as cramped and claustrophobic as a cave.

Pontiac is hoping to differentiate itself from the GM lines by stressing their heritage of producing comfortable vehicles with high-end performance.

Rose.
