BMW Announces Price Bump

Due to the recent economic turmoil and plunge in business within the car market, BMW has announced a price increase for most of its cars. Nearly all BMW models sold in the U.S. will see a 0.7% increase on the sticker price beginning Jan. 1, 2009.

The only prices that will stay the same are for the new Advanced Diesel vehicles, which include the 335d and X5 xDrive35d.

The good news is that if you’re in the market for the 2009 7 Series, which recently made its debut at the L.A. auto show, the base price for the 750i is still $80,300.

Update: To clarify our original post, nearly every manufacturer raises prices from one model year to the next in the realm of 0.3-1.0%. The news here is that BMW is giving a specific reason for the move.

A stupid way to do business. There is no reason to raise prices. Steel and all components just came down. And the Euro Collapsed. More German greed.

Nice business plan, when everybody spends less money on everything, they increase the price. Nothing more stupid than that. People stoped buying BMW and Mercedes because they where expensive for no reason (the quality is not for the price) and they make it more expensive. Lexus is going to sell whey more now.

That makes sense demand goes down, so raise your prices. Hmmmm....

This deflationary period is temporary, very temporary.
It is more of a de-leveraging (people are selling what they got to pay their bills)

Hyperinflation is about a year out, giver or take.

BMW needs to get another $300 out of everybody for their 2009 models, at the same time they announce resumption of the free maintenance program. How free is it?

What a brilliant move by (B)ring (M)y (W)allet! People have less money now so why would they raise their prices? Dee Dee Dee!

Its amazing how people criticize thoughtful answers yet seem to accept vague ones (Obama anyone?) without any explanation.

Kudos to BMW for the justification. No one needs to guess as to why GM, Ford or Chrysler will need to raise their prices... or for that matter Toyota.

The reason for the criticism is because of BMW's explanation for the price increase. For some reason, people are not paying as much attention if they didn't explain it.

Well they can do whatever they think is necessary for their business. Sometimes they can make as much money by selling less cars but for the higher price. We can either bite it and keep buying their cars or we can choose from one of their competitors. Frankly their new designs sometime do not look very pleasing to me. In fact new five looked so bad back in 2003 that I urgently bought E39 since they stopped making them.
