First Look: 2010 Mazda3 Hatchback

Mazda1

Last week we fawned over Mazda’s redesigned 2010 Mazda3 sedan. Now the company is showing off the hatchback version online ahead of the car’s official unveiling in Bologna, Italy, next week. As in the previous generation, the hatchback comes only with the top engine offered for the sedan, which in this case is a 167-hp, 2.5-liter four-cylinder.

The hatch looks good, but with only two shots that partially show the rear end, it’s hard to tell if it’ll be as attractive as the sedan. Check out more photos below and let us know what you think. Also, check out our Mazda3 index page for more news on the 2010 model.

To me it would be the major deal breaker that the wagon doesn't come with 2L engine.

Looks good - a nice link to the Mazda6 with those lights too.

PS - Bologna is in Italy, not Spain.

Mart!
You got me. Man still crazed from LA workload. thanks for the catch.

Peter

He never said it was in Spain, it was always Italy...
Anyway i like it a lot. I almost always like the sporty look of Mazdas. Even if it is a hatchback. But that creepy grille still gets to me.

Mart

Actually, it originally said Spain, I promise :)

I love the new Mazda3, btw. The interior is the nicest of any compact sold in this country, i reckon.

very nice. i too care more about the economy than the sporty-ness of it. i hope there is a smaller engine avail, or the 2.5 is really thrifty for its size.

The back reminds me of a Toyota Matrix.
