Gas Prices Remain Calm Going Into Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving

If your holiday plans include driving, it looks like you won't have to worry about a spike in gas prices while you're at Grandma's.

Going into the long holiday weekend, prices at the pump continue their freefall, down to a national average of $1.868 as of today. Now, in "normal" times (whatever that means these days), a holiday weekend and its enormous increase in national miles driven would prompt a spike in prices. Think of this past Fourth of July weekend or Memorial Day, when the crush of vacationers sent the cost of gas soaring.

This Thanksgiving, an increase looks unlikely. Even if there is a spike, it's unlikely to push gas beyond the $2-a-gallon range.

At least that’s something to be thankful for.

We want to know: How low can gas go? Where's the bottom of this price decline? Did low prices change your mind about holiday travel? Let us know in the comments.

I'm doing the same trip I would've done before but now getting cheap gas in the burbs isn't quite as alluring.

Have gas prices fallen primarily in the USA, or has Europe also experienced a (sharp) decline in their prices? I know Canada's has fallen like ours. Is this decline the same worldwide?

Roger

Does a 5% to 6% drop in demand equate to a $2.00 drop at the pump? It just goes to show how much the price is being manipulated by the various robber barons holding us hostage. Which isn’t to say conservation is no longer important, just some food for thought. When all is said and done the oil companies will still show the same profits…

I am thankful for the significant drop in gas prices from the ones we experienced a few months ago! I am now able to visit friends, family members, and a few others that I haven't seen in ages! I haven't a clue as to how long or how low, but man am I thankful for what they are today!

I already had plans to travel this holiday weekend. It's a good thing to be able to fill up the tank with less than half the cost from a couple of months ago. After the holiday, people need to continue driving less so that demand is low which equals lower gas prices.

I live in St. Louis and gas prices are $1.39 i thought i would never see this again

I think Missouri has the cheapest gas of all the states right now. Gas is $1.31 in Kansas City. It's cheap all over the state.

Still doing the same traveling, the low gas prices are just a plus.

At least we can be thankful most people aren't stupidly rushing off and buying large SUVs to compensate for the decline in gas prices.
