Volvo S60 Concept's Crystal Interior

Volvocrystal

Since the automotive world is more obsessed with keeping weight down than a bunch of reality TV dancers, Volvo’s crystal center console is definitely a flight of fancy. Today, the Swedish company revealed this interior shot of its S60 concept car with the crystal console that will debut at the 2009 Detroit auto show in January.

Beyond the outrageous looks of the crystal interior — the company plainly states “it will not be a production feature” — we’re totally shocked that Volvo is even working on a new S60. Rumor had the company combining the S40, V50 and S60 lines into one single vehicle. We’ll have to wait until January to get the firm news on that, but at least for now, it looks like a new S60 is on the way in the not-so-distant future.

Thank god there is a new S60 on the way! I absolutely love my S60 that I bought in September of 2001 and am planning on replacing it with this new one as soon as it comes out.

It looks nice, but Volvo better get serious if they want to stay afloat. The competition is just too good right now. I mean if I want a luxury FWD/AWD sedan for $35K the A4 (now much bigger), TL (fully redesigned with up to 305 hp!), and ES (the most luxurious Camry you can buy) are much better options.

The current rumor about Volvo's demise is that Ford might sell them to BMW. That might be good if BMW can do another "Mini" with Volvo, because they are in need of desperate help. If they fail (like they did with Rover) that'll be one sad sad day.
