MotherProof Reviews the 2008 Toyota Sequoia

Sequoia

When you look to the gargantuan SUV set (which fewer and fewer car buyers seem to want to do these days), one of the big guys you can't rule out is the Toyota Sequoia. One of our mom-reviewers took a look at the Sequoia and spent the first part of her driving time simply admiring the thing's sheer proportions. OK, so it's big, but can it deliver the goods? How does it handle? How's the interior? Read the full MotherProof.com review to find answers to all of this and more.

Mrs. Gilsbach failed to mention a few things in her glorious review, which seemed to judge the quality of vehicle by how gargantuan it is:

The Toyota Sequoia offers no discernible advantage over a Sienna unless you tow or go offroad (and it's not even very capable at the latter).

However, the Sienna offers several advantages over the Sequoia:

- Better fuel economy (especially in these times)

- Superior safety for you and your children:
- lower center of gravity means it is less likely to roll over. Check the rollover safety requirements for light trucks and you'll be shocked
- better handling in emergency situations

- More cargo room

- Seats 7

- AWD is available

If you don't tow anything and if you don't go offroading, there is no rational reason to get a Sequoia. I realize some of you might want the Sequoia merely to wear as an oversized fashion accessory, but please realize you are putting your children's lives at increased risk vs. choosing a minivan, not to mention you will be paying a LOT more for gas vs. a minivan and the resale value on these large SUVs will tank like you've never seen before due to market trends.

Now. Paste this review into MS Word. Search and replace Sequoia with Chevy Suburban or Expedition. Read over.

That how good this review is!!! It fits them all!

"...but please realize you are putting your children's lives at increased risk..."

Spoken like a true idiot.

Walter9- you've offered an excellent counterargument with solid reasons to support your position. I'm sure your mom will be very proud of you when you show it to her.

What Walter9 was most likely referring to is that the Sequoia has a full frame under the body. That means that 2" x 4" welded tubing creates the structure that the cars sits on. Minivans are unit body. Meaning that there is no "frame". In a collision, the minivan folds up like an accordion while the Sequoia holds its shape and protects the passengers. Sounds safer to me.
