2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe: Fresh Photos
On Friday, the Cars.com team got to check out a bunch of new vehicles. One that we couldn’t drive we instead let staff photographer Ian Merritt capture with his lens. Below you’ll find 36 photos of the upcoming Genesis coupe in black. Yes friends, black. There was universal praise for how the two-door looks from the front, but there were doubts about the taillight treatment around back. Check out the photos and let us know what you think.

I'm not a fan of the styling (front or back). I'd probably get a 1 series or G37 instead.
I hate to be the pedant but don't you mean "round THE back"?
Otherwise I like the exterior but the interior looks good for a Hyundai but still a little "average" compared to the more premium opposition such as Infiniti.
Personally, I also prefer the back to the rather weird front with that awkwardly tiny front grill...
WOW, it amazes me how cheap this looks inside compared to the Genisis sedan. This should keep the Tiburon name in my opinion because I think luxury coupe when I hear Genesis Coupe- which this clearly is not, based on that interior.
Broq
Broq,
I think it's a big step up from the Tiburon but agree the Genesis naming convention just because they ride on the same RWD platform is a bad idea if you're trying to make the sedan pseudo luxury.
The grille reminds me of a mid-90's Elantra! Inside is ok but no steering wheel radio controls? & where is the cruise control located? Nice, but not luxury!
Center console looks like hybrid of Altima and Mazda6
I'm a little disappointed by it; it looks more like a souped up Tiburon in my eyes. It's a shame it can't even compare to the Genesis name the sedan has been giving out lately.
It's an attractive car for sure. However, like Tony stated, it does seem to be an evolution of the Tiburon styling theme as opposed to an extension of the Genesis family. To put the Genesis name on it may water down that model's image and will only add confusion. Does anyone remember the Lumina sedan and Lumina Minivan fiasco back in the 90's?
Oh, it wasn't Tony's statement I was quoting, but anonymous. Sorry. The eggcrate grille does kind of remind me of the one from a '99-'01 Sonata
no.
Wow, that front grill makes a wonderful car look so cheap. It's so oddly placed. The wheels look great, but the rear of the car reminds me of an Acura RSX. MY GOD, that interior looks so cheap compared to the sedan.
I luv being able 2 enlarge the pix 2 full screen!! That grille is hideous, Hyundai needs 2 fix it ASAP, just don't emulate Acura's new grilles!!
The car looks great. The grille is an exception. But taking the Genesis name plate and putting it into coupe form seemed like it didnt work out right. The interior is a definite step down but i'm guessing its because it has a lower price range. This doesn't translate well considering the brand has evolved so provokingly in no time. I have to say its not a total disappointment in effort just that the stakes are high in time frames. But i have a feeling that the company actually listens to this sort of structural critiquing. still on the emphasis on boldly styling and presentation, its a good first preproduction but there is time to make the adjustments and necessary improvements
I don't see why you all are hating on the car. I think it looks nice, especially in black. I believe this is the base model version too, so keep that in mind.
it looks like they tried too hard. the styling is very busy...kind of reminds me of the first tiburon (the one that was ugly).
IMO, since this resembles over 90% of the G37, others might think you can’t afford the real G37, which itself isn’t super expensive for what it’s capable of. I’ll always think of the Genesis Coupe as a FAKE G37.
Gee, that grille does need to go. It simply looks like too many Sonata, Elantra, and Tiburon grilles from the 90's. I don't mind the rear end so much.
And even considering that this is a base model, the interior is simply too Spartan to be called a Genesis. Call it a Tiburon and it's a winner. Call it a Genesis and it just dillutes the sedan.
the car looks nice the exterior, but if that is the base model I will definetely buy the leather interior.....
I previously agreed about the front but after seeing the Gen again at the state fair I realized the removed the overbite look and changed the design of the black part of the grille. This car though is very nice in the 20-30k. Its features power and price are far more superior than others in the same price range. Genesis is a concept of new beginning. Its a designation of marked change by entirely new design. Its not a tag of luxury. We shouldn't be so easily confused. The coupe is a sports car not a luxury car. The sedan is a powerful well performing luxury car not a sports car. The 09 infiniti starts at 39k. Next years 1 series starts at 33k. Gen is about 23k. So be realistic in your camparo. And remember the 85-91 rx7 was considered a fake 944, 300zx, and people were more partial to a dodge daytona! Now the dodge is junk and the mazda is one of the most sought after tuners of the past. Why? Because it broke the 1988 world speed record after modifications only to the engine. The hyundai has taken styling cues from other cars but who hasn't? Every automaker had to copy and benchmark to create a name for themself.even infiniti had started by taking styling cues from bimmer and lexus from Benz. Hyundai is only 23years old and I'm sure that by 35 they will be on the forefront of original and innovative styling. And furthermore. Not eveyone can afford 43k. The govt won't bail you put if u but a car out your means if you are poor. So if you can afford the Gen? Had fun in the test drive and 30k is what you can afford? By all means buy it and god bless you and enjoy! I saw the interior and its just as nice as an eclipse that has a well put together interior for its price. The eclipse lacks in performance so if hyundai can provide for the PRICING (key word) great! Now companies will once again compete for your biz ! And that hasn't been done in a decade. Companies have been hovering around the same specs and people have been redundant in there purchases. This car will change the way all companies perceive what we deserve for our money. Until recently we been paying more for less. Hyundai is giving us more for less in its class! And for those expecting the worlds cheapest 3 series? Keep dreaming. Those who want NEAR infiniti fun for lower cost better warranty and like modding cars that are cheap for fun! This is for you! Look out in 2011. Nissan is #2 in game changing sport coupes! And Toyota you need to wake up from the dead! What's going on with your subaru/Toyota project? Last but of hyundai info... The 4cyl Gen is a de tuned evo engine! So tubers beware!

turbo kz where'd did you get your false pricing information from? The next G37 Coupe will be only slightly more expensive than the current one (about $35K) the 1 series is only $29K and the Genesis Coupes price is still unconfirmed. If you forget, remember the rumors floating around on the web about the Genesis Sedans price being in the upper 20s and it ended up being 34K? I would only take the rumored prices with a grain of salt.
front and back are ugly and interior is a step behind new Camaro and Mustang. The best thing about the car is the wheels, they are nice.
I hope that Hyundai adds direct injection to the V6 for about 330hp, and the 8 speed automatic for the '12 model year.
This car is badass, Hondas took 50 years to ge to where they're at, hyundai took 23. If genesis coupe looks like a g37, then g37 looks like a toyota solara
It looks awesome! I hope I can test drive it soon!
A few points...
1) I'm pretty sure the Genesis Coupe will have steering wheel mounted controls. Heck, even the Elantra has it. My guess is this car didn't have it as an option or this car was too early in production to include it.
2) The interior, while in no way compares to the Genesis Sedan, is fine for a $20k-$30k sports car. Also, seeing that the seats aren't premium leather, I'd guess this car isn't the top of the line model.
3) I'm starting to like the front treatment of car the more I look at it...especially the headlights. However, I do agree with the comments that the grill treatment has to go. Reminds me of the Hyundai grills of yesteryear, and that can only spell C-H-E-A-P. Hyundai: please change this ASAP, like in year 1 or year 2!
All that being said I expect this car to be priced in the $19,995-$24,995 range. Yes, that sounds awfully cheap, but seeing that Chevy just announced its 300hp V6 Camaro will start at $22k, Hyundai probably won't be able to deliver its promise that it will have the cheapest 300hp in the market. (Although I also expect the Camaro to be marked up like crazy and have to raise its price the following year.)
Guys keep in mind the car pictured in this article is a pre-production model. From the lack of the formed exhaust tips this very well might be one of the first models. If you guys want to see some newer pictures and photos of this car in action check out one of the Hyundai Genesis Forums (http://GenesisForums.org) They have some exclusive videos and photos. There is even a recent dyno test of the turbo-4 on their. There is also an e-brochure straight from Korea online that you can download.
The car looks fine to me except for maybe the silver centre dash cluster, and why do they show two round exhaust pipes in rectangular bumper cut outs? or maybe some models have exhaust that suit.
I've seen plenty of pictures in other websites and it has leather interior. The interiors are great, just not the ones on these photos. The grille takes a little getting used to but is fits the car and gives it a unique look.
Do yourselves a favor and google more pics of this car. You won't be disappointed.
This is the BASE model 2.0L turbo genesis coupe. This is an idea of what you can get for the cheapest in their lineup. Expect a much nicer leather interior, HID's, Brembo's, 19" wheels etc... on the 3.8GT or Track model.
This car would be wayyy better recieved, IF they didn't name it the Genesis. People are expecting the luxury of the Genesis sedan. Which it doesnt have. All this is, is a stupid naming desision.
