First Honda Civic Rolls Off Indiana Assembly Line

Civicline

A few months back we produced an in-depth series about the future of auto manufacturing in Indiana, including a stop in Greensburg, where Honda was yet to open its new assembly plant. Today, the company announced that the first Honda Civic sedan has rolled off the new line.

The Civic has been in high demand since this summer’s gas-price roller coaster, and Honda simply couldn’t increase supply enough with just imports. The new flexible plant in Greensburg will boost Honda’s North American production by more than 200,000 vehicles a year, the company says.

Honda’s assembly plant in East Liberty, Ohio, also produces Civics, but the hybrid version of the car is still manufactured in Japan.

there goes the quality!

Happymantis

Haha, maybe... but at least we'll have less resentful laid off auto workers blaming "import" buyers for every thing that's gone wrong in their lives.

Let the recalls begin!

GR

Since this is an assembly plant we'll only have to worry about parts falling off in the street right?

Congrats to Honda. We have been buying Honda/Acura cars since 1986. In that time our family has owned four Accords and all of them were built in Marysville, OH. The Accord is by far the most reliable car we have ever owned.

A lot of folks in Central Indiana have been looking forward to this milestone.

Congrats to Honda, the state of Indiana, Decatur County, and Greensburg.

yeah. my point. and the sad part is that many people actually feel this way. look at the bright part, i can remember in the early 90's how the japanese said we were lazy. guess we aren't that lazy anymore or they really need to have them here.

The Civics from Indiana will be great. Honda's quality is designed-in, making it easier for the line workers to turn out consistently good cars.

G-Frog

Do not forget that Honda Canada Mfg. in Alliston also fabricates Civics (Including all coupes and all Si's)

G-Frog

BTW Congrats to all Honda of Indiana associates from your friends in Alliston (HCM associates and suppliers)

Juan Carlos-
Trailer trash watch CNN. Fox news is for elitest republicans and trust me they don't live in trailers.

What is all this talk about?
Majority of Civics has been American and Canadian made for years now. You could finf Japanese assembly on some top Si trims and in California. On the East coast you will rarely find Jspanese-build Civic. So Indiana plant wouldn't change the quality. This is process, the line put together and it is doesn't matter where it is located. The copmputer runs the line, all tools are adjusted to certain torque, etc.
Unless they sabotage....
