Cars.com Reviews the 2009 Mazda6

Mazda6

When you're facing competition with the reputation and brand loyalty of the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord, you’d best bring your A-game. Mazda's 2009 Mazda6 definitely puts its best foot forward, with unique styling that makes your right foot long for the gas pedal. Still, the Mazda6 needs to hold its own in the meat-and-potatoes categories, too. How does it ride? Is it reliable? How's the gas mileage? Cars.com reviewer Mike Hanley puts these questions and more under his consideration as he evaluates the Mazda6 in its tough segment. Read his full review below.

I really enjoyed the review as it offered valuable insight but what's with the individual picture layout? One has to click on each picture to view it - a real pain! I also don't think it's necessary to say it's an "Expert Review". I think that's a given but comes off as bragadocious. I'm glad I found your website and look forward to reading more reviews.

I had hoped that Mazda would sell only the European version here in the US but alas we are stuck with this less appealing one. The good news is that it still looks better than the Camry, Accord, Altima designs. The last 6 always seemed to be overlooked compared to its peers when potential shoppers should have considered it before settling on one of the other boring "appliances".

Do anyone know the interior volume of the European version?

2 bad we don't get the "2" here in the states, nice car, but I guess we get some form of it when the "Ford Fiesta" arrives.

are we gonna be getting the wagon version at all in the US? to me it totally looks more elegant than the sedan.

To answer some of the questions and comments:

-Expert reviews are labeled as such to distinguish them from consumer reviews submitted by readers who've driven/own the car.

-As of right now, the U.S. is only supposed to get a sedan version of the Mazda6.

i smell a comparison test! can't wait, hope Mazda6 will kick some behind

The 6 is sexy, see the new 3 on my Flickr page, don't think it's quite as kewl as the 6!

Edmunds already did a comparison test and Mazda6 came on top, rated better than the Accord and Altima. The European version's interior volume is pretty much the same as the first generation. America gets the bigger interior one in order to fit our overweight bodies and greasy KFC fingers. It is a very nice car indeed, especially when it is paired with the six speed manual, very fun to drive and entertaining. Interior quality is among the top in its class, also comes with unique features like blind spot monitoring. I own a 2003 first generation Mazda6 and the reliability had been so-so, but better than Ford.

the 3 is now on our homepage too. Check it out
