Ford Unveils Shot of 2010 Mustang Dash

2010mustangdash

Last month, we brought you some images Ford released to tease its Mustang faithful. Today, the company released a more revealing picture of the new muscle car’s dashboard. Compared to the current Mustang, the 2010 sports a new steering wheel, redesigned gauges and center vents. The top of the dashboard seems almost identical in shape, but below the center vents there’s a noticeable new shape, presumably to make room for a new center stack of controls. Check out the current dash and this new one side by side, below.

Wow. They changed the shape of the dashboard vents. This should give the American automotive industry the boost it needs to battle those darned imports.

I think the round vents were better looking, IMHO. I notice how the A/C & Radio r mysteriously blackened out. Steering wheel is slightly diff. but now has radio controls. Will Mustang still have various colors for the instruments? I hear Autolamp will be available.

They're obviously going to change the center stack. I presume it is to compete with the unconventional interior in the upcoming Camaro.

i really hope the interior isnt made out of the same garbage it is now. if it does ending up being the same low quality interior, the Camaro will be a best seller.

Yeah, I definitely like the old dash better too. Those rectangular vents in the new dash remind me of my step-father's 74 Maverick. There's a "classic" to emulate ;)

The square vents in the middle create more room for the center control stack. I think they should have at least rounded the ends of the vents to perpetuate the round/oval theme.

Looks like they are raising the entire center stack.

It needs it. The current configuration has the shifter blocking the ventilation controls. Poor ergonomic design.

I've rented my fair share of Explorers and hate the vent being placed underneath the radio. Hyundai did this in the Sonata but were smart enough to fix it in the new version. When it comes to car interiors will Ford or GM ever be known for making a quality one? The answer is "No!" as Bob Lutz himself said the Malibu is the best interior they've turned-out to date. Are you kidding me! American car companies used to turn-out the best interiors but that was literally 50 years ago. Now all they seam to do is the minimum and sometimes not even that.
