Survey Finds McCain Voters Drive American-Made Cars

Barack Obama’s campaign released an ad in Michigan attacking opponent John McCain for owning three foreign-branded cars among his 13 total vehicles (never have you heard the word "Lexus" used with such derision), but a study by Bigresearch — a company that studies consumer behavior — has found that McCain voters are more likely to drive a vehicle made by an American company than Obama voters, by a margin of 68% to 54%.
Of Obama voters, 37% said they drive Japanese cars, while only 27% of McCain voters said the same. When it comes to European cars, 10% of Obama voters ‘fessed up to driving one, while only a little over 5% of McCain voters admitted that their cars might have originated in the continent that contains France.
Out of more than 8,000 people surveyed, the only strange finding was that the exact same percentage of McCain and Obama supporters — 8.2% — drove Hondas. Perhaps that's the bi-partisanship they both always claim they're all about.
As for insight into what will happen on Election Day, the survey found that the brand most driven by undecided voters was Ford, and, coincidentally, Obama just happens to drive a Ford Escape Hybrid. Is this a cynical political ploy, or is Obama in touch with the common man? You be the judge.

What a useless survey
The M in McCain should be included in the link.
B said it right.
There are two ways to look at it.
First, is that Obama's less rich supporters can't afford to drive american car. They buy reliable and economical Japanese brands.
Second, most Japanese cars are made in US and many American cars are made in Mexico and Canada. So Japanese cars not so foreign after all.
How to explain that poor Obamians drive German makes? I don't know. But here is one: For them, their fancy car is all they have. Yes. These are people who lives in sh#@@y apartment and drives a BMW.
Ummmm... Tony... have you ever heard rich liberals?
They can't afford American cars? really? Oh, I can't afford a heavily rebated Chevy Cobalt, so let me buy a $16000 Honda Civic?
What part of America do you live in?
well the amercian cars are a poece of crap which are gas guzzlers and cost alot to buy new parts because they keep on breaking while a japenese cost a bit more with good quality in materials and parts thta dont break down!!
YOU COULDNT PAY TO OWN AN AMERCIAN CAR!!!!!
You can also look at it from the appearance aspect. Rebublicans are conservative and boring so they buy conservative boring vehicles. Democrats are more liberal and open-minded. Therefore they buy brands that are more exciting and different. You could tell when the cameras scanned the audience of the convention. Republicans - suits and ties. Democrats - tshirts and jeans.
Just tell me one more time that I bought a Camry for the reliabiltiy, and then four months later the transmission blew! Wow that is what I call reliable and cheap.

i wonder who funded this exciting survey? what a waste of time and funds.
Tell me why the hell every since blog ends up bashing american cars? I've had a Chevy, Toyota, Oldsmobile, 3 Dodges and a Pontiac. The most reliable, my last Dodge, the least, the Toyota Avalon and the second least, the Honda Prelude. The point being, cars are cars, they all break.
Where is the proportion of Republicans higher?
Where are the highest concentrations of Democrats?
Who needs to try to parallel park a pickup everyday?
Who is going to service a civic or volvo in Hoople, ND?
Do you guys really wanted to see us get into the whole foreign vs domestic fight AGAIN that badly?
Come on, what's the point of this survey?
I'm a conservative who has 2 Nissans in my household; a '08 Rogue and a '99 Altima. I too agree that this survey is pointless. Most people buy what they like and what fits their needs regardless of the badge on it. In my case, I've been loyal to Nissan since my '92 Hardbody which I gave up still running strong at 220k miles. I have over 200k on my Altima at the moment and it is still going strong too. Say what you want but I'm forever Nissan!
Agreed! This survey is useless, people drive all sorts of cars... there's no way you can pigeon hole a person's politics based on the car they drive.
Is it possible for Ziggy to make more broad sweeping ignorant statements. I think not.
I'm voting for Obama but the fact of the matter is he's just as much of a hypocrite as McCain. Until Obama announced his candidacy he drove a Chrysler 300. It's well known he only changed to a Escape Hybrid to give the appearance that he's a friend of the environment. It's all part of playing the game as the masses really are assess.
Obama supporters are not poor! At least not the less than 10% that get European cars in either camp. Obama is among the top-3 fund raisers in the Senate in terms of getting campaign contribution from the Wall Street elite! His pro-government intervention position makes him Wall Street favorite . . . because the Wall Street is inhabitted by the biggest welfare queens, who live large on gambling money for 7years then when the inevitable odds come on the 8th year they turn to the government for bailout. The very foundation for gambling in those 7 wild party years was based on the ultimate government guarantee to rip off the rest of the economy to come to the rescue of the Wall Street Masters of the Universe whenever the gamble goes bad. The rescue device is called government fiat. There is a good reason why McCain Campaign is limited by public campaign funding limit, whereas Obama has chosen to rely on campaign donations instead.
I am with this is a stupid survey. There are plenty of people in both parties that are well off and not so well off, what they drive is not always an indicator of that. I know plenty of very well off people that drive cheap cars, part of the way they got there. I also know plenty that drive very fancy cars that can barely make payments on them.
I currently drive a Prius, and firmly have my McCain/Palin bumper sticker affixed.
ONLY Ford driven here. I'm driving a 1985 Ford Crown Victoria station wagon with 223000 miles on it. I've owned it for 20 years buying it from the original owner.
The car gets regular tune-ups oil changes and is kept maintained. Take care of your car and your car will take care of you.
