Tesla Looks to Expand Offerings to Include Mass-Market Sedan
Tesla Motors seems to have scored a hit with its $100,000 electric roadster, but we're going to go ahead and say that the future of the electric car market does not reside with the six-figure automobile. After all, Matt Damon can only buy so many cars.
Enter Tesla's next project: A mass-market all-electric sedan that will sell for roughly $30K. It will join the Roadster and the upcoming $60,000 Whitestar sedan in Tesla’s lineup. The car remains in the planning stages, but to make it viable Tesla says it would produce 200,000 cars annually. This is a big jump from the 1,800 Roadsters and the 20,000 Whitestars it's planning to build each year.
Will Tesla be up to the technical challenge presented by building EVs at such a low cost? We look forward to finding out.

$30K for a family sedan is cheap?
I don't think Tesla can do it, but I'd love for them to prove me wrong.
freethinker,
I don't think we use the word "Cheap" anywhere in the article. It is low cost for a family sedan hybrid (a camry hybrid is $25,200 and this will be all electric)
Tesla becoming a mass producer can only mean one thing; they will be bought out or a big share of the company will be sold to a current automotive company (i.e., Toyota) with deep pockets, manufacturing expertise, and a wide distribution network to fulfill their ambitious goal of 200,000 units at $30k a piece. That’s my prediction.
