This has got to be the strangest idea we’ve heard to counteract poor fuel efficiency. It seems Nissan is working on a gas pedal that will push back if a driver tries to “floor it” and accelerate too quickly. Rapid acceleration, of course, is a major drain on fuel economy, and Nissan says this system could up mileage by 5%-10% by calculating the most efficient rate of acceleration.
We have one major issue with this system: If you’re in a risky situation and need to accelerate quickly to avoid it, you’re out of luck.
However, Nissan says it will allow drivers to turn off the system manually.

Ahh that's a horrible idea. Maybe a light should come on telling you to let off the pedal instead of it pushing it back for you without any give. I'd like to see someone trying to move out of the way of a semi and try to disengage it "manually" before the truck hits.
Okay, I can turn it off manually; but what if the override failed and I need to run from whatever?
but think of the enviroment. your carbon footprint comes down. is a give and take. trade in that evil suv and add 15k to the new car loan and get these pedals. mother earth will love you.
Some of these "designers" should stop working for car companies and submit their "save the earth" proposals to Bus makers.
If you want us to all take mass transit, how about making something more comfortable than an A-Train?
