Subaru Special Offers
Too little for cars that are too expensive to compribable cars. Full time 4wd saps too much performance and MPG.
I used to be a loyal subaru customer when they would compete with Toyota on features, price and MPG. I used to get about 35mpg when they sold a 4cyl with fwd. I also had a older smaller 4wd drive that when it was in 2wd it would get 45 mpg on the highway. Just don't know who they think their competeion in the market is anymore. They don't seem to compete with anyone else.
Anon,
I think the reason Subaru is setting record sales is because they don't compete with anyone else. The #1 question we get at http://ask.cars.com is about AWD equipped cars. Besides Suzuki, Subaru has the least expensive with the Impreza. And when comparably equipped, the Impreza is about the same price as a new Corolla or Civic. It just gets worse mpg because of the AWD and larger 4 cylinder engine.
No Subaru will get stellar mileage,an Outback weighs 3500 lbs! This is more than the old Chevy Nova cars weighed! To move such bulk, they need 170-200 hp engines and that kills mileage.Someone who comes out with a similar sized AWD wagon, with a 1000 less lbs and a reasonable HP engine (with 30+ mpg) would sell all they could build. There is no need for an AWD car to weigh over 3500 lbs.
Paul,
maybe you missed what I was saying, Subaru IS hitting record sales right now with what they've got.
