EcoDrivingUSA Makes Consumers Aware of Gas-Saving Practices

Just to be fair, almost all the tips found on the new consumer-awareness website EcoDrivingUSA can already be found in KickingTires Gas-Saving Moment of the Day series — tips we meticulously collected for months.

True, we didn't have California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger helping us with a plug, but the driving tips (avoid idling, maintain optimum highway speed) and maintenance advice (check your tire pressure, reduce excess weight) is all stuff that's been recommended since the first U.S. oil crisis in the ‘70s. The website also overlooks creative solutions, like "stop buying fast food."

It’s also noteworthy to see who’s behind the site, specifically the Auto Alliance, which represents a partnership between the major automakers. It’s much easier for them to support proper tire inflation than higher fuel-economy standards.

At least there’s a handy CO2 calculator that can help you track and reduce your emissions, plus a virtual road test that helps demonstrate those good driving practices we’ve all been talking about.
