Chrysler May Ditch Dodge Viper

Viper

Chrysler’s recent struggles are no secret. The company is looking for ways to stop the bleeding and start moving upward during a particularly difficult time for carmakers. Hence, the automaker’s latest move: an attempt to sell its iconic Dodge Viper brand, according to the Detroit News.

The Viper has always been an exotic luxury sports car, but it’s never done big business for Chrysler. According to the Detroit News, the company is looking to “refocus” on its “core business.”

The story speculates that the Viper could fetch up to $50 million as a hobby brand for a foreign automaker. That might not affect the larger car-buying population, but for dedicated Viper enthusiasts, it’s a grim portrait of the future.

i'll add it to the list of reasons that support my theory that Chrystler is trying to knock itself down just enough that it stays alive but is picked up by GM, Toyota, Honda or Ford and made better.

I actually read the price as more 150 million in U.S.A. Today so must vary. I don't believe the Viper is a brand per say but is recognized. Little disappointed since it sounds like they make money off the Viper.

Chrysler is struggling and needs a bailout again. It's going to be just like the bailout in '79-80 when the company sought major concessions from their employees along with billions in tax dollars to keep the factories running. Maybe they should just stop production and close their doors and we can just give that bailout money directly to the employees so they can find work in another more profitable field. Either way, our tax dollars are supporting them.

The Chrysler bailout involved just over one billion dollars in federal loan guarantees, which the company paid back. While many employees lost their jobs, it didn't cost the US taxpayer a penny.
