Chrysler Ends Gas Deal, Invents Silly Pun to Sell Cars

Shopimage

Gas prices remain all the rage — they’re still hovering near $4, though they are falling — and Chrysler’s gas deal from the last few months can probably be seen as a successful marketing exercise. Whether or not it got more people into Chrysler cars is up for debate, especially with July sales down almost 30%, but who knows what the figure would have been without the gas deal?

Alas, the Let’s Refuel America program is over: Chrysler has released its new August incentives, and it’s back to the same old, same old: $2,000 on select models when financed through Chrysler, $750 for loyal lessees who can’t get a new lease, and so on. (Check your zip code for specific offers on our location-based incentives page here.)

That’s not all Chrysler is offering this month. The name it’s concocted to tell people it’s offering incentives is “Shop Till You Drive.” Whether or not that will mean cash for the consumer remains to be seen, but in the meantime, let’s all politely point and laugh at just how unbelievably bad that pun is. “Shop Till You Drive?” Really? Thousands of dollars in marketing money spent, and that’s the best you can do?
