'Knight Rider' Fans Salivate at 4x4 Transformation

Kitt

When NBC debuted the new “Knight Rider” movie this spring, fans clearly felt something lacking in the new KITT. After all, this isn't the ‘80s — cars really do talk now. With that in mind, writers for the upcoming “Knight Rider” series, debuting this fall, decided to incorporate different modes for the famed vehicle.

In it's Normal mode, KITT looks a lot like a 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR, but if you tick it off (or need extra towing capabilities for a boat or something), then it can transform itself into a 2009 Ford F-150 FX4 pickup. NBC treated fans to a sneak peek of KITT's new twist at last week's Comic-Con gathering in San Francisco. The new series will appear this fall on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. EST.

We serious automotive journalists can only speculate on how absurdly inefficient it is to carry around a full-size F-150 inside a Mustang. KITT must get very poor gas mileage.

Our friends at PickupTrucks.com got the inside scoop on the new KITT. You can read all about it and see more pictures at the link below.

I can just see people now wanting to go to the local Ford dealer and picking up a F-150 after the show debuts (yeah right). NBC and Ford (for giving them this truck) should be told to sit in the corner with the "DUNCE" hat on. I think it would have made more sense to use a Focus coupe in "normal" mode and transform to the Mustang in "pursuit" mode.

One word to describe all this:
DUH!

If Knight Rider really cared, KITT would turn into a hybrid.

OR

A better premise.

You all are boring. No one would watch this show if it turned into a hybrid or a panzy Focus. The few who will be watching it won't be too concerned about the environmental impact of KITT. As soon as gas prices go down (further) the $4 gas prices will be all but forgotten.

Wayne

Come on....

KITT could be the Johnny Applehybrid of our time. Like Capt. Planet, but a car.

Or it could start out a Prius and then transform into a Highlander Hybrid to keep Mother Earth safe from the real Transformers.

Long lost Hoff. Jr. could use his back-child support to create a nonprofit organization that turns other cars into alternative fuel/cooking oil based cars. And when pissed off, he could transform into a highlander to carpool with the police and local - gotta keep it local law enforcement to catch the bad guys. They could do community service at windmills.

And his rig/hideout could run on biofuels, but plant corn and soy to offset its fuel consumption and use of food based products derived energy.

I enjoyed reading that.

I watched the pilot movie out of nostalgia for the 80's show. I thought it was pretty lame and probably just as well it doesn't get picked up.

Shows what I know.

Anyway, in the show they had some technobable about how KITT uses solar and hydrogen for all is systems. Then of course they add in a line about how using SuperPursuit mode and driving at night has negated all this and he still needs gas.

See what I mean about stupid writing?

This car will be very enviromentally friendly however, since 90% of it's screen time consists of CGI renders.

I really,,, REALLY, need to stop watching TV.

I dunno. KITT never transformed into a different cars. That just seems pointless. Its one thing for a car to grow a wing or something and go faster, but transform? Couldn't they keep it at least mildly realistic?
