Dodge Viper SRT10 Returns to Cars.com

The Viper SRT10 makes its return to the Cars.com office this week in coupe form — the last one we had was a droptop. And so begins a full week of what I call “Viper time,” which is where I turn off the stereo, roll down the windows and make sure I’m not wearing any baggy pants that will ignite on the Viper’s super-hot and unavoidable side pipes.

Senior editor Joe Wiesenfelder reviewed the Viper the last time it was with us, and you can find his full-length review here. The Viper is back as part of a review series where Cars.com staffers get to share experiences about the cars we test, and the Viper got handed my way for a week.

After one night driving the car, I can say it’s an intimidating sports car on the verge of overkill for street use, what with its 600 hp and no stability control; that’s a condition I like to call glorious … and maybe still a little scary.

Besides a daily commute from the Chicago suburbs into the city, I’ve planned my whole weekend around the car, including (weather permitting) taking the Viper to the dragstrip. Alas, I will not be blasting down the strip in the coupe. I’m giving up racing my own car in favor of simply driving to the track in the Viper, which is pretty much just as satisfying, plus it delays the risk of grenading parts on my car until the next track visit.

Wow, I didn't know they still made them. It was on a endangered list along with the V10 truck. The last time a heard they were going to sell over $90k if they made any more. Good score.
