2010 Camaro Navigation: Turn-by-Turn Until December 2009

2010camarors

The second thing I thought of after seeing the 2010 Camaro’s official interior was “where are they going to put the navigation unit?”

It turns out that the first Camaros to go on sale won’t have one available at all, even as an option. Instead, GM will use its Turn-by-Turn directions, which are downloaded to the car via OnStar and are part of a monthly package owners must pay for.

A traditional navigation system will be offered for the Camaro starting in December 2009. The Camaro goes on sale in early 2009, so there will be many months — and presumably thousands of Camaros on the road — before it becomes an option.

With the incredible growth in the portable navigation market, along with the fact that this is a Camaro, I don’t think many buyers will really feel slighted by the lack of a nav unit. Plus, the stereo display and controls look terrific (check them out below). By the way, that was my first thought when I saw the finished interior.

And did anyone else notice the door lock button is right under the CD slot?

They look like Civic or Fit stereos. A step for for a Chevy, but low-rent for a Camaro.

low rent? I think it looks pretty nice.

Mart

Considering the Camaro is traditionally as low rent as sports cars come, a Civic standard stereo surely is a step-up? The last Camaro was an absolute carbunkel of a car...

Looks pretty good compared to alotta GM stereos ive seen...

LM

At least the chiclets are gone!

I'm just not sold on the interior of this car. I haven't actually sat inside the Camaro, so I'm holding off on any snap judgements. When I did see final shots of the Camaro, do remember thinking that the display itself looked pretty good.

J

The next thing they need is to use better parts on the wheels and the signal stalk.

Who would want to use the turn-by-turn anyway?

Rich

The Camaro will be another reminder of why GM is still incapable of excuting a complete product. No Nav? Door lock button located under the CD slot? No thanks. At the end of the day it's just another half-assed GM product.

Joe Bruzek

For people commenting about the door lock button, don't forget BMW also places its door lock button on the center console.

Maybe a European designed the interior? Alot of Euro cars have the lock switch in the center inst. panel. I like the stalks but y did they put the cruise there instead of the steering wheel? Very 80's! Also the steering wheel "thumbwheels" are another Euro style thing!!

I hate machines that talk to me including sat navs

sheth

The buttons are in the center so the car can be made in left or right hand drive. This is common on cars that are sold like that. The control stalks are similar to those in the CTS and Vue.

J

Sheth,

Then why every car that I've owner are having the door lock switch on both front doors?
Every car I've owned are the very same car being sold worldwide.

J,
It's cheaper to put in the center. With testing cars its annoying because you're not used to it but because so many cars are keyless entry these days, to me I rarely use the door lock button at all.

J

Dave,

Cheaper. Thanks for the key word!

Rarely use the button, I agree with that. But when needed, it is annoying because the button is not at the place where it should be. I guess the cars that you guys test does unlock themselves when parked while engine is still running, right?

Infosaur

Even better, they put the Hazard light switch on the dash!

Nothing worse than slaming on the brakes as the 75mph interstate becomes a parking lot in under a 1/4 mile and you've got to reach around/through the steering wheel to tell the cell-phone talking noob behind you to wake up!

Brian

I think all of the posters who are compaining about the placement of the door lock button are the same ones who got their feet caught in the steering wheel after the dimmer switch was moved to the steering column.

Like any change from the norm we will see if it is a success or failure over time. I welcome GM trying to innovate, it at least shows they are thinking, which is more than I can say for them over the past 15 years.

you complaining about the unlock button, jesus. its right infront of the stick shift, must be really hard to lift your index finger up and press it, even more convenient if you ask me you dont even have to move your hand, jesus im 16 and i can figure that out J. price has nothing to do prob cost 30 bucks less. WOW big bucks quit looking for reasons to cry, go do something else because cars abviously isnt your thing
