Movers and Losers: May's Hybrids

2008prius

Hybrids are increasingly popular as gas prices inch higher. The Toyota Prius, Toyota Camry Hybrid, Honda Civic Hybrid and Ford Escape Hybrid saw quicker sales in May than in April. Also of note was the clean-diesel Mercedes-Benz GL320 CDI. Although not a hybrid, the large SUV moved off lots in just 26 days.

Surprised to not see much action from the Altima Hybrid.

Maxwell

AS far as I know, you can't get your hands on an Escape Hybrid anywhere. If you order one, the wait is until the end of time.

That does not gel with the published 23 days on the dealer lot.

i question where the info comes from. to quote mark twain (There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics). if these numbers were taken from all over the country then combined to form a national average, you can see how someone in my geographic region would be confused when cars.com says i can find a prius, and then i went to dealer and they told me i would have to wait months for one. I had a ford dealer tell me they wouldnt be getting any escapes until the 09s started arriving.

Tony

Maxwell,
They mean 23 days wait to get on the wait list.
LOL
My strategy for nex 2 years:
Summer and Fall: I drive Burgman (60mpg), Wife drives Protege (29mpg)
Winter:
I get cheapest, manual tranny Civic or Corolla

In 2 years there will be plenty of hybrids and diesels. Toyota wants all cars to have hybrid version by 2010.

Tony

markt,
your dealer probably don't even care. Dealers don't make much now of the new cars, barely breaking even.
Also it is either a form of punishment from the manufacturer to your dealer for not selling enough or
your dealer didn't share $$ with regional manager or other people who decide which dealer gets what.

I am not suprised that the Nissan Altima Hybrid is not on the list. I used to own a NAH. I traded it in and went back to a 4 cyclinder midsize sedan. In my opinion the best hybrids are the camry hybrid, prius and civic hybrid.

Altima hybrid is only sold in a few states, not nationally. Our sources for the figures are national.

that's not to say we don't have Altima hybrid figures. it did well. just didn't make the list

Tim

thats good the Altima Hybrid is not on the list. It doesn't deserve to be on the list. Mine was a lemon but Nissan never admitted to it. Don't buy an altima hybrid.
