Gas-Saving Moment of the Day: Fewer Options
OK, let us preface this by saying that adding fewer options when you buy your new vehicle is not going to save you massive amounts of gas. This is not a "Mega Gas-Saving Moment," it is merely a "If You're Really Looking to Pinch Pennies Gas-Saving Moment."
However, certain options do conspire to slightly decrease your fuel economy. For instance, any option that adds a motor will add to the overall weight of your vehicle: Automatic seats, power windows and power tailgates all fall into this category. A moonroof presents a double-whammy because not only does the motor add weight, but it also adds significant drag every time you drive with it open.
Again, forgoing these features will not save you bags of money, but over the life of a vehicle, it will add up.

Have fun finding one. GM is especially bad with this. Another benefit, less things that are not covered in the warranty to break down and cost you big $$$. The quality of this stuff is not designed to last the number of payments people are having to make.
Anonymous...it's not the 80s anymore, where in many cars roofs leaked, windows stopped working, etc. Accessories tend to last the life of a car nowadays - thank the Japanese for forcing better design into cars.
On some models, though, it remains precarious. But your statement lacks evidence.
hm...
I thought the moonroof not only add the weight of the motor and moving parts, but also the weight of added structural reinforcement due to the fact that the metal roof is cut out and replaced by the moonroof.
