Gas-Saving Moment of the Day: Get a GPS

Ttgohand

Portable GPS devices have a large convenience factor, but they could save you fuel as well. If you travel a lot, or if for some reason your job takes you to unfamiliar locales, having a handy portable navigation device can lead you to the fastest route or the street with the fewest traffic stops.

It also keeps you from getting turned around and wasting gas as you try to find your way with a paper map. The Virginia Tech Transportation Institute backs this up with empirical evidence. Their study found that the use of navigation devices reduced both time and distance during travel. In addition to being safer on the road, drivers reduced their total fuel consumption when using a navigation system.

The price of GPS devices has come down drastically in recent years, and you can get your hands on one for $100.
