Gas-Saving Moment of the Day: Cluster Errands
If you commute to work by car, there's not a whole lot you can do to cut back on that particular drive. Elsewhere in your daily routine, however, you may be able to find errands and weekly tasks that can be combined to reduce the number of trips you're taking in your car.
For instance, why not stop at the grocery store on your way home from seeing a movie rather than making a separate trip? And why not stock up when shopping rather than having to return in a week or two? Do your children have those pesky after-school activities that supposedly make them learn and grow as people? Save gas by car-pooling with other families. How about joining a DVD mailing club like Netflix rather than making trips to the video store every week?
You might find it helpful to make a list of weekly errands and leave it by the front or garage door. Each time you leave to run an errand, check the list to see if there's anything else you can take care of while you're out and avoid a later trip.
