Gas-Saving Moment of the Day: The Staycation
Unfortunately, there's a reason summer is the season of high gas prices. Most Americans do a great deal of traveling in the summer, using those precious vacation days they've been saving all year. Either that drive or that flight is going to cost you a pretty penny this year, however, so we'd like to recommend the "staycation."
A staycation means taking your vacation days but staying at home and exploring your own city or community. Often in the need to escape the toil of work and responsibility, we think we need to jet to a beach on the other side of the country. However, no matter where you call home, chances are there are local sights, opportunities, restaurants, shows and other diversions you haven't had a chance to fully explore, no matter how long you've lived there. Check your city or town's tourist activity website for more information.
Rather than taking on the rigors of travel, sleep in a few days, have brunch with your significant other, take your kids to a park or museum. The idea is to enjoy a vacation locally by doing all the things you never have time for. Let us know what you think. Will you consider a staycation this summer? And does anyone else think this new term is already grossly overused?
