Fake Obama Hawks Kia Sportage

Fakeobama

As a fan of Jon Stewart and "The Daily Show," I must protest that sometimes people just make his job too easy. Take, for example, a Dallas-area Kia dealership that's using a Barack Obama impersonator to sell Kia Sorentos Sportages (darn that Jon Stewart; the fake Obama is selling Sportages, not Sorentos as Stewart says), even mimicking the famous line "Yes, we can!" (sell Kia Sorentos Sportages, that is).

We'll ignore the political contradiction of Obama (a hybrid enthusiast and critic of gas-guzzlers) plugging the 15/20 mpg city/highway Sorento 19/23 mpg city/highway Sportage and simply label this ad ridiculous.

Stewart follows up with Martin Luther King Jr. using his "I Have a Dream" speech to plug Pontiac Bonnevilles. Check out the video after the jump.

I'll probably vote for BHO, but I have a feeling he's really not that different than most other politicians. Sure he favors hybrids, but if you've ever seen him out on the campaign trail like I have you'll quickly notice they use 3 large SUV's. I guess it's a case of - do as I say not as I do. Reminds me of, "I'm not a divider, I'm a uniter."

The AP was doing random candidate info stories early on in the primary. One of them was, "What's your personal car?" Barack Obama's was a Chrysler 300C. The only major democrat in the race to not drive a hybrid. I'm still voting for him, but that's the record.

Shouldn't the headline be "Fake Obama 'Hawks' Kia Sportage"? To 'Hock' the car means something else - but not selling.

Pete,
You are correct. We've edited the headline. Not sure how that made it through editing.

Also Mike,
we reported on the candidates car previously. Barack had a 300C and it was his family's only car. So 1 car which isn't that bad. Some time during his run for president he switched to a hybrid escape. Regardless all of them ride in a row of suburbans.

Barack Who?

Love the spoof. I am tired of the media not reporting his factual errors, but jumping on everyone elses.

And yes, this guy drove a big honking SUV right before he needed an image makeover to a hybrid.

Ken

I saw this commercial, while I can not put my finger on exactly what it is, I find it offensive. I am definately turned off by the Kia ad and will remember Kia's as something negative.

Luther KIA in the Minneapolis area is using the same gross ad campaign.

Steve

Jeez,,, lighten up people...it's just a car ad! Dealers have been using
a Bush look-a-like for 8 years to sell cars & insurance and there's been
no outrage. Get a grip will ya!
