Dyson Spokeswoman Denies Electric Car

According to a Dyson spokeswoman, the company is not working on an electric car. This contradicts a report in British newspaper The Independent, which quoted inventor James Dyson at length speculating about the future of electric cars.

"James [Dyson] did say that our new digital motor could power a car," the spokeswoman said in a statement, "but we are not working on, and have no plans to create, an electric car."

The Independent's report quoted Dyson as saying his motor technology could be applicable to automobiles. It also named "sources" when referring to Dyson's plans to team up with an existing auto manufacturer rather than trying to build the car "from scratch."

The report has us scratching our heads, especially if Dyson believes his patented electric motor can truly power a car the way he claims. In that case, why wouldn't his company be working on an electric car? Or trying to sell the technology to an established automaker?
