2009 Dodge Ram Gets Even More Power, Better Efficiency

2009dodgeram

We’re not sure why we need more power in our pickup trucks these days, but Chrysler designed and built the new 2009 Ram before the current gas crunch, so it makes some sense that it now sports a whopping 390 hp (it was initially supposed to have 380 hp) and 404 pounds-feet of torque. This is for 5.7-liter-Hemi-equipped Rams. Those Hemi-powered babies can get to 60 mph in under 6 seconds. However, towing is still rated at 9,100 pounds, far below the Tundra’s 10,800 and the 2009 F-150’s 11,300 pounds.

PickupTrucks.com has the full story on the 2009 Ram’s power figures, and goes into more detail about its 4% better fuel efficiency.

Who the hell needs a huge beast that sucks gas and goes to 60 in less than 6 seconds. Give me a frickin break already.

markt

and someone on kickingtires said i had anger management issues.. haha

LM

I'm not angry. I'll be laughing when it flops. Just like I laughed yesterday when I saw a huge Dodge Ram here in Boston and thought how it cost him well over $100 to fill up.

The question is WHY. They just don't get it. And some want us to sympathic towards these guys. LM - You're so right! Give me a frickin break!

What get's me is that there are probably manufacturers out there that are still working on future truck and large SUV designs.

Oh well.

Ziggy,
I agree with you, when I see people using these as personal daily drivers it makes me sick, but there is still and always has been a need for trucks like these. But only people who actually need them should buy them. I'm sure people who tow horse trailers, boats, etc, would use a corrolla, civic, focus, or cobalt in a minute if they could do it, but they can't. LOL

What I don't understand is why Dodge can't just have one Ram truck without having to have all the different variations of it. The same with the Silverado and the F150. Just keep it simple. You would think that it would make economic sense to the manufacturer.

I just wish it had a 6 speed automatic.
GM has one now, so does Ford, Toyota has had one for a while, Nissan has a 5 speed but could be looking to install that 7 speed.

The half-ton will never flop. People still need to get stuff from the big box hardware stores to home. I kinda agree about the excessive horsepower but thats what chipping your engine can do. Dial back the power and get back to better mileage, or go the other way if you really want to see dinosaurs fly out the tailpipes.

George... the half ton still have the 5 speed, but the heavy duty segments have the 6 speed. I see the heavier tucks being use as they should. Carrying heavy loads. They used to have a 4 speed. It was engineered tough, but there was no reason new technology would do it better.

I don't think the new power figures are whats the most exciting about the '09. I think the new interior will be the best part of the refresh.
