Cars.com Launches Free SIY Site, Freebo.com

Freebo

The internet is full of places you can try to sell your car for free — as well as that old bookcase, mountain bike or kitchen sink. But none of them have the power of Cars.com behind them. Today, Cars.com launched Freebo.com. Like the name suggests, folks looking to sell their car can post an ad, complete with pictures, for free.

What happens? Go to Freebo.com and post an ad with up to six photos, and it will be listed locally for 30 days. While you’re building your ad, Freebo even tells you what cars like yours are going for in your area, including a low, high and average price.

Freebo even monitors fraud with built-in safeguards. Go check it out for yourself.

This would be a great idea if it only allowed private sellers. I did multiple searches for my area and couldn't see any difference between the two (Freebo v. Cars.com) sites.

I searched for my car model in my zip on both. Cars.com shows 49 listings, Freebo shows 5, so there is some kind of difference. Looks like the Freebo site excludes the listings that are explicitly labelled "Dealer" listings.

That is correct. This is a site designed for private seller listings only. However, in certain markets (such as Chicago) you may find some dealer ads online. this is an anomoly caused by the way we receive information from some of our partner newspapers here at Cars.com. It is something we are working to fix sooner rather than later.
