GM 72-Hour Sale Update: Included Models

2008pontiacsolstice

Earlier today we heard word that GM would start a sale tomorrow featuring 0% financing for 72 months. The deal will run through June 30, and we’ve just received the list of vehicles included. To be clear, the sale only includes the 2008-model-year vehicles listed below, not 2007 or 2009 vehicles. No hybrid models are included, either. Basically, if you don’t see it below, it’s not included in the sale. There are no real surprises, but check out the list and tell us if you think the sale will help move these vehicles over the next week.

0% APR for up to 72 months on 2008 vehicles including:

  • Chevrolet: Suburban, Avalanche, Equinox, Colorado, Tahoe, Silverado, TrailBlazer, Uplander, Impala, HHR
  • Buick: Lucerne, Lacrosse
  • Pontiac: Torrent, Solstice, G6, Grand Prix
  • GMC: Yukon and Yukon XL, Sierra, Envoy and Canyon
  • Cadillac: All Escalade models, SRX, STS, DTS
  • HUMMER: H2 and H3
  • Saab: 9-7X, 9-3 Convertible
  • Saturn: Sky, Aura and Vue

The Aura is the only one in the sale that I would consider purchasing with today's gas prices. The Vue is a really nice vehicle that I have rented and taken out of town many times in the past, but it's a real pig at the pump for it's size. If I'm not mistaken, somehow the Vue XR with the exact same engine as the Outlook gets worse gas mileage! And the Vue is a much smaller vehicle than the Outlook. They are both very nice vehicles in their own respects, but if its my own money, I'm going to get the bigger vehicle with better gas mileage everytime.

You should consider a Hyundai. It has better fuel economy, better warranty, and overall better value.

Sky/Solstice are kinda cool, esp with summer in full swing. not that expensive either.

please don't bring up Hyundai's, or other makers, cuz this specific post has nothing to do with the pros or cons of one brand vs another. basically, if you like to "buy American" (whatever "American" means, in a global economy with car parts coming from all over the world), this is a good finance deal.

Rob

This is a good deal if you want a GM product. Six years of financing for zero finance charge is really a good deal. I wonder if someone wanted to pay cash if GM would knock the price down to what it would cost to finance at six years at say 7.5%.

LM

The short answer to your question, Rob, would probably be a resounding NO. And anyway, why on earth would you want to part with $20k instead of taking 0% financing? Wouldn't it be better to invest that money - though these days I'm not sure where you'd invest it. Still, 7.5% is not a whole lot of money when you consider how much that is compounded over 6 years.

As for the Hyundai comment. You are mostly correct with the exception of cost of scheduled maintenance. Hyundai's services are frequent and costly to keep that non-transferable warranty going. If you are foolish and do not replace your timing belt, your engine will blow. I say this as a former owner of a 2001 Elantra GT for five years. I had no problems over the 53,000 miles I drove it.

I now own a Buick and like it a lot. The Oil life monitor has me changing oil every 9000 miles or so. That is reducing maintenance costs. Two years, 24000 miles, and no issues so far.

0% financing is a great deal.

I agree that the Aura is probably the best vehicle given the current fuel prices right now. G6 (same mileage as Aura), Impala LS/LT, and LaCrosse CXL are also good mileage vehicles for their size.

all the cars up there suck i dont know who would buy the bad quailty and gaz guzzelers of cars from GM this is like buying the trash that they need to get rid of i havent even heard of chevy colorado, GMC cayon or the pontaic torrent!! stop making crappy gaz guzzelers NO ONE WANTS!! just declare bankrucpy . and let toyota takeover our market, with there high quailty fuel econmic car

GV, no capitalization, punctuation, or spelling? Nice. The quality of your communication skills confirms the quality of your statement.

gv

well excuse me Mr.Hitman, But my statement is still sadly true. Because i have bought cars from both car companies and have seen the differnce between a chevy trailblazer and a toyota highlander. because i own both of these cars and trying to get rid of GM from my driveway but it takes $85 to fill up every other day. Oh and the quality is crappy in my trailblazer !!! 10 Times to my chey dealer for repairs since 2006.my toyota not once!!!

Keith

Sorry this doesn't pertain to the post but Hitman, your response has me rolling! And GV, how about posting more meaningful comments instead of these childish rants that really provides no benefit to us the readers.

DF

I agree with GV, GM has an awful quality while toyota has awesome quality and cheap prices. No wonder it is the number one car seller in the United States. Final point, Toyota is much better than cheapy GM.

As an owner of two Hondas and two Saturns let me compliment both brands for the years of trouble free service they have provided me.

I have a 96 DTS (V8) and love it. Don't like paying for gas, but what can you do. I'm looking at a small car as a second to take the bit out of the gas bill, so I will look this offer over good. I still really would love to get a VW Jetta SE, but they are just a little expensive for there size and costly to maintain, I'm sorry to say. Hey, did anyone see that Passat Turbo lease offer, 0 down and $265 a month for 36 months. If it wasn't for the need for premium , this might be a taker. They are a great driving machine.

Tom

Sorry, I ment a 2006 DTS, and I ment to say the Passat needs premium gas to push that turbo, just like the 2.0 in the Wolfsburg Jetta :-(

All I know is that we are coming to the end of an era in terms of manufacturing. All sorts of goods will eventually be made by one or two global giants. And when that day comes, all the different names won't mean anything and the throw away society which we have increasingly become will be all the more prevailing. People talk about Toyota quality and value. Fair enough. But who cares? How long do the average new Toyota buyers keep their cars? Who wants an old car? From any brand? The automotive business was always been based on fun and freedom, at least in the USA anyway. Basic transportation was never the hallmark. Longevity was for people with engineering degrees to own and try to see how long a mechanical device can continue on before the laws of nature take hold. Big deal. Where's the fun in that? As far as this 72 hour sale, I don't think it will do much for two reasons. One is that they are all either gas guzzlers, or are boring. Second is that the zero percent deals never come alongside of deep discounts. People really aren't that stupid. The want to have cake and eat it too. As for me, I bought a Cobalt coupe base model in classic white with nifty looking Vette lights on the rear and a deck spoiler. It's cool looking (unlike Toyota's) and it is generally fun and responsive. That's what the automotive business was built on since the 50's. And that's what's missing these days. Affordable and fun and cheap and so on.
