2009 Infiniti FX35, FX50 Priced Thousands Higher Than Outgoing Models

InfinitiFX

We recently got to drive the all-new 2009 Infiniti FX35, and we came away impressed. We’re not sure how impressed we would have been if we knew Infiniti was planning to raise the prices $2,900 for the rear-wheel-drive FX35, $2,800 for the all-wheel-drive FX35 and $6,600 for the range-topping all-wheel-drive FX50. They go on sale June 24.

2009 Pricing

  • FX35 RWD: $40,950
  • FX35 AWD: $42,350
  • FX50 AWD: $56,700

Prices do not include a $815 destination charge.

Sure, the new FX gets significant upgrades, most notably in the drivetrain and looks departments. The FX35 features a 303-hp V-6, while the FX50 gets a monstrous 390-hp V-8. That’s 28 and 70 more horsepower than the outgoing models, respectively. Both come with a new seven-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy numbers have not been released yet. Update: The FX50 does come standard with a navigation system and Infiniti's Around View Monitor system which costs $2,850 as a navigation package on the FX35. Package prices are also now listed below.

Keep reading for more info on standard features and option packages. Let us know if you think the price is right, or if the FX misses the mark. It’s still about $10,000 less than a new BMW X6.

Standard on all models are high-intensity headlights, power-folding heated outside mirrors, a one-touch power moonroof, roof rails, intelligent key and keyless entry, leather seats, eight-way power front seats, an 11-speaker Bose stereo system, XM Satellite Radio, a rearview monitor, and dual-zone climate control.

There are also a slew of option packages for each model. We list them below, copied directly from the automaker’s press materials.

Four packages are offered for the FX50: Sport Package with sport leather seats, smoked headlight bezels and taillights, AFS, Continuous Damping Control adjustable shock absorbers and Rear-Active Steer; Technology Package, with Lane Departure Prevention, Intelligent Cruise Control (Full Speed Range), Distance Control Assist, Intelligent Brake Assist, Pre-Crash Seat Belts and rain-sensing wipers; DVD Mobile Entertainment System; and 21-inch high-performance summer tires.

  • Technology Package: $2,900
  • MES / DVD: $1,600
  • Sport Package: $3,000
  • 21" Summer Tires: N/C

The FX35 is available with the Premium Package, with climate-controlled front seats, 2-Position Driver’s Memory Seat, paddle shifters, roof rails and more; Navigation Package, with navigation system, 8-inch color display, Around View Monitor and more; Technology Package; DVD Mobile Entertainment Package; and Deluxe Touring Package, with 20-inch wheels and tires, AFS and hand-stained Maple wood trim.

  • Premium Package: $2,350
  • Navigation Package: $2,850
  • Technology Package: $2,900
  • DVD / MES: $1,600
  • Deluxe Touring Package : $2,650

The exterior doesn't look high-end. Actually it kinda looks ugly and cheap. Like the maxima, the interior probably looks good. And the prices seems steep for an Infiniti. I'm actually surprised they priced the FX above the Acura MDX, and the only difference is 3 hp. Oh and one other thing, I thought this competed against the BMW X5, not the X6. The X6 only seats 4, I think.

Both X5 and MDX have three rows of seats. The FX and X6 have two.

Mart

I'd imagine it really sits somewhere between the two. It's neither as spacious as an X5 nor as compromised as an X6.

Cj

^That sums it up well.

Mart,
It's pretty much exactly the same as the X6 with the sloping roofline. We drove them both back to back. The X6 I think actually has better rear headroom with the cut outs in its roof for the two passengers. Middle of course is another story.

The X5 is roomier than both and has the optional 3rd row.

FX has 4 more cubicft of cargo room with seats up and 10 more with seats down. Headroom in rear is less than an inch better than X6. I'll have to check out x5 later but I'd guess it's bigger.

Cj

Thanks for the research Dave. So the FX's only competition, currently, is the X6.

Andy

My god thats one ugly monster! When it comes to styling, Infiniti seems to go out of the way to be different in a bad sort of way.

Cj

I'm actually surprised the FX turned out like a...turd. The EX didn't look that bad, and then Infiniti decides to goes out of it's way to turn the FX into a big ugly beast. Not that BMW's are pretty, but how do they expect BMW buyers to take this thing seriously. It's just plain ugly. What has happen to Nissan's designs lately? The maxima's headlights are just nasty and now Infiniti comes out with this.

Can anyone say, "weak dollar"?

I think this is just the beginning of higher prices on cars. Inflation is not pretty.

LM,
That came to mind as well.

"Prices do not include a $185 destination charge."

Is that typo? Shouldn't it be closer to $1,085?

Keith

Another site said that destination charge was not released but that for the 2008 model year it was $815.

Didn't I read a review of this car that said it *almost* drives itself? That seems like it would invite distraction.

George

The FX50 & Cayenne GTS seem like good rivals, except the porsche costs 50% more.

it's amazing: all this comments from guys that have most probably never driven an FX. I do for 5 years and it keeps to provide superior fun with great utility. I know the BMW X5 hands-on: the third row seats are
- at best -a joke. And who wants to have so many people on board anyway? Take a second car for the rare occasion!

sixsticks

Just bought a 2009 FX last night, FIRST one off the delivery truck! In a word it's totally AWESOME both from an aesthetic and performance point of few. I was able to test drive all competitor models for 2 days (I was allowed to take them home)and IMHO, the BMW6 doesn't come close to the FX in any aspect. I was much more impressed than I anticipated!!!!!!!
