Question of the Day: When Will I Be Able to Buy a Plug-In, All-Electric Vehicle?
The day of the plug-in electric car draws near, at least according to automakers. Toyota, Nissan, Chevrolet and Ford all have plug-in electric vehicles in the works, and 2010 looks like the target for most of these cars to hit dealerships. Details like cost and the range of the batteries remain open to speculation, but the day of the plug-in is likely not far off. Ask.cars.com has all the details, including some of our reviewers’ first drives in plug-ins.

I never knew about this until commenter "j" suggested it at ask.cars.

Cj,
Phoenix is one of those companies that's good at sending out press releases, but not very good at actually producing anything. I hope they can produce a decent electric car, but until I see them on the road I wouldn't give them any money.
I'm not interested in one, but the only EV I knew about was the Tesla. I didn't know that other companies, like Phoenix, were selling EVs with lithium batteries already.
There are companies out there like Tesla if you want to get on a waiting list and spend $100k for a car. I thought Mitsubishi was going to start selling the Miev (i)in Japan in 2009 with possible U.S. sales in 2010. Zenn currently sells electric cars in the US but they only have a 40mph limit and 40 mile range. The run about $13k.
Hi everyone. Interesting comments.
What if you could buy a car 5-10 years old, replace the engine, tranny, suspension, repaint and repair any cosmetics and make it all electric?
That's what we sell at www.convertedcars.com
Come and see us...we sell vehicles for about the same as new model year, but they are 5-10 years older. That's because all the parts have been replaced to make them full plug-in cars and trucks.
No hybrids, no hydrogen, no biofuel, no sh--.
These are fully functional, electric cars and trucks. Period.
Minimum standards for performance are: 60mph an 60 miles range. Some of the cars do a bit better, some do a whole lot better!
These are PERFECT commuter vehicles. They are new, for all intents and purposes, and they will save you EVERY PENNY you are now spending on gasoline. Maintenance cost is near zero.
Don't let the auto industry lie to you anymore. Don't let the oil industry jerk you around anymore.
Is it really better to drill holes in our oceans than to solve the problem of burning gas? We don't know. But we DO know that YOU can stop spending hundreds of $$$ every month on gasoline for your commuting and local traveling.
For a few thousand more, upgrades to well over 150 miles range and MUCH higher top speeds are available. For a few thousand more yet, you can get a screaming machine with a 300 mile range and 0-60 in under 5 seconds.
But that shouldn't be necessary. For comuiting to work, or traveling within state, these vehicles not only get the job done, they do so splendidly. Electricity will cost you about $2-$3/day if driven to capacity every day.
Please come and see us. The future is NOW. Stopped getting ripped off. LOTS OF MAKES AND MODELS AVAILABLE: come and see.
FULL performance guarantee, full new-car warranty on all sales.
