CBS on Auto Industry Woes
The Columbia Broadcasting System tackled the tough state of the automotive industry on yesterday's nightly news. They went straight to the source to sum up why things are so dire for the Big Three: Cars.com senior editor Joe Wiesenfelder. "If fuel prices weren't high and the economy got soft, they might be OK. If fuel prices went high but the economy was still pretty strong, they might be OK. But all these different factors together really leaves them with losses at every turn."

Small Sales + Small Cars = Dealer Pain (CBSNews.com)

Ford should take all those employees being laid off and have them help plan and build a decent, fuel efficient car. The Focus isn't enough to satisfy the consumers demand for such a car.

I can't really blame the Big 3. They produced what people wanted. The problem is that they ignored what other, now successful manufacturers were building. That shortsightedness is what drug them down. We can't point the finger at fuel prices and the economy. If that were wholly true, the other manufactures who are doing good would be in the same boat as the Big 3 wouldn't they?
IMO Big 3 management is who let the Big 3 down.
