New 2008 BMW X6 a Hot Commodity

With some blogs claiming the BMW X6 is sold out, we thought we’d let you know that there are at least a few hundred nationwide still available for sale. If you’re interested in the sport coupe/crossover SUV known as the X6, simply do an inventory search for the model here on Cars.com to see if there’s one for sale near you.

Many of us here at Cars.com thought the X6 — which starts at $52,500 — was not going to be a success. Then we drove it. I even took the x35i version on the track at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wis., and experienced one of the most thrilling rides I’ve ever had. The X6 handled the track a lot better than many cars, and the brakes were outstanding. Plus, all the action took place far higher off the ground than should have been possible. Clearly the X6 is an enthusiast’s SUV that might steal buyers from the aging Porsche Cayenne.

So why were webizens shouting “sold out”? BMW says the first-year run of nearly 20,000 units in the U.S. has been spoken for by dealers. Because only 655 were sold in its first month of limited sales in April, that means there are thousands left that need to be sold to actual customers. Those interested should hit their local BMW dealership to see if they can test-drive one and place their own order.

Since when is ANY 4 Door vehicle a "coupe?" That's just pure stupidity!

Thats why they are sold out, they offered a sparse few. Offer anything from a big name and it will sell a few units. I hope (and pray for the intelligence of America) that the car does not sell well.

Sure, it does handle and accelerate better than most cars. That is, if you are including ALL CARS. Luxury sedans like the 335i far outpace the X6, the 550i far outpaces the X6, the 6 series outpaces the X6, much from Mercedes and Audi outpaces the X6.

The X6 is possibly the most useless vehicle ever. It has little cargo room, little towing capacity (for what it is), and equivalent prices cars far out-do it. I've drive the x35i and the x50i and I will agree it beats most cars: if "most cars" includes the Toyota Corolla and Chevrolet Malibu. Even the Toyota Avalon. Yes it beats laid back family cars grandly, but without any of their utility, economy, or class.

Only a moron or a whore buys a BMW X6, so I declare so it shall be....

Allen, that last bit was uncalled for and totally rude and ignorant.

If I had $60 grand to waste and buy something that has plenty of "hey look at me i'm rich" styled into it, sits higher off the ground, don't have enough to buy something REALLY cool like an Aston, then i might consider the X6. there are so many X5's, 3 series, 5 series running around Boston, they look as special as Camry and Accords.

i can see why lots of people might want the flash, the brand new/nobody else on the block has one (yet!) factor if they are shelling out that much money

DL

oh, and it would also for the next few months stand out a lot more than the Cayenne, which are also flooding the nicer neighborhoods around here. so i agree that it would at least for a while take a lot of buyers away
