Buy a Car, Get Free Gas, or Gun?

Handguns

A car dealer in Butler, Mo.Miss. — which must be the toughest town in America — has thought of a great promotion: Buy a car, get $250 in gas or a free semiautomatic handgun. Yes, a handgun. Before you get all bent out of shape, he doesn’t have a big barrel of handguns on display at the dealership; you get a certificate that has to be redeemed for the gun, along with filling out the proper paperwork and getting a background check.

Still! Handguns? What’s more telling is the video over at KMBC.com, in which the dealer tells stories of how many handguns he sees in cars brought in for trade. Apparently, 80% of people so far have picked the handgun over the free gas. We don’t have a problem with guns on their own — Second Amendment and such — but there are just some things that don’t go together. We’re sure everyone will want to weigh in below.

Same thing happened in Michigan before. Open a bank account and get a gun (The ones used for hunting), and they will hand it out to you AT THE BANK! (after a few days that your background check approves).

J,
That may be a worse place to hand out a gun!
Thank you for my gift, now hand over what's in the drawer!

I just found their web address
www.max71.com

They look like the kind of people who hand out guns.

Wanna know what's wrong with this GREAT country? Here's a great example :(

Handguns? Seriously?

Firepower for your buying power?

Did anyone else notice the banner ad on their website that reads, "GOD, GUNS & GAS !!! GIVE AWAY !!!" I don't think I'll be shopping there.

Still, the whole point is to get publicity, and it certainly worked. I have to say job well done.

The problem is that $250 won't buy much of a gun.

Dave,

Seriously, you didn't watch Bowling for Columbine?

Finally.

Now people have something to wear while stealing gas.

Nice way to get your "stealership" noticed!

This dealership is in Butler, Missouri. Not Butler, Mississippi. The TV station mentioned is in Kansas City, Missouri. Which is about 1 hour and 15 minutes northwest of butler...

I have to agree with Lil'Tom that for $250 you can only get 1/2 of a Glock.

As far as the $250 not getting much of a gun is true. I would think the owner of the gun shop would be happy to sell fifty guns and make $20 profit each than sell two guns and make $100 each, simple economics. Maybe they can apply the money towards a nicer piece.

You anti gun people suffer extreme diminished capacity for thought and reasoning skills.

A gun is a tool just like any other tool, there is a proper tool for every job, using the wrong tool or using a tool improperly can be dangerous no matter what the tool. To look at this realistically the cars this man is selling have the potential to cause more loss of life and destruction than some pissy little gun ever could and there is no regulation on who can buy one other than the ability to pay for it.

Just come out and bare your soul in plain English. Even better, I will translate the collective thoughts of the moronic ramblings of the anti gun extremists so far. In no particular order:

“They look like inbred rednecks so they must like guns” “Shame on that evil capitalist for doing something that earns him profit” “He mentioned God, he is a nut-job, I am not doing business with him” “Why doesn’t the government put him in jail for arming people” “I hope he gets one of his free guns used on him” “now that they are armed they can rob people for gas money”

Thank God for blogs, they illustrate the plight of the stupid so well.

To the dealer, I wish Good on you and yours, good job.

“Work hard, spend wisely, and defend what is yours more fiercely than those trying to take from you, and live happy and do not let these idiots piss you off.”
