Gas-Saving Moment of the Day: Avoid Drag

Roof_rack

What do we mean by avoiding drag? Just like our other gas-saving tip on windows versus A/C, an important part of maximizing fuel economy is reducing wind resistance. In other words, stay sleek.

Ditch the bike rack, ski rack, rooftop carrier, bug shield, wind deflector, and the mattress strapped down with bungie cords. Occasionally, vehicles have these kinds of additions and drivers simply never think to remove them, but it's better to have that added weight inside the car than slowing the vehicle down on the exterior.
