Cars.com Reviews the 2009 Dodge Journey
I had the tough task of reviewing Dodge’s new crossover, the 2009 Journey. Why was it so hard? Well, for one, this thing crosses over a lot of segments for a single vehicle. Due to its low introductory price and available third row, it can compete with everything from a Chevy Equinox to a Toyota Highlander. There was a lot to like about the Journey, but I also had quite a few gripes, too. Check out the full review with video to find out more about Dodge’s all-new Journey.

Dave,
I don't quite understand your front storage bin comment. The Journey DOES have passenger Front Airbag Occupant Sensors And Multi-Stage Deployment. There's no safety risk in having the front seat cushion flip up. The style of bin, found in many Euro vehicles, is quite clever. If you're riding solo or with kids in the back, it provides a great space for ladies to stuff their purse or for anyone to hide something of value. When it comes time to retrieve your goodies, you're not ducking your head under the seat to find out what treasure lies in the the drawer.

Mick,
Our data -- which comes from the manufacturer -- says there is no sensor in the Journey. I tested it and could not find a sensor warning light anywhere. I have a request in to Dodge to clarify and will update the review, post and video if there is a sensor but I don't think there is.
As for the storage there it wasn't really big enough for woman's purse, at least the women I know. They could have easily made a larger glovebox. There's really no need for the storage there and the shelves work just as well underneath.
Okay Dave, I "may" owe you a beer. I spoke with Chrysler and their answer is below...That's domestic beer, by the way ;-)
Dodge Journey offers an adult or child in the front-seat passenger seat equal protection, to an air bag system with OCS. Dodge Journey employs Low-Risk Deployment Air Bags that are engineered to be "softer" via unique shaping, folding, venting and advanced inflators. Dodge Journey also utilizes front-passenger seat position sensors to adjust air bag deployment for passengers seated at different positions on the seat track. (Dodge Journey also received a government 5-star front- and side-crash test rating)
They got back to you faster than me! Thanks for posting that.
