I saw pics of real new 2009 Pilot...
In days when it is already hard to sell any SUV, selling... a monster will be even harder, I think. This is not the first time that I remember Honda turned something good into something ugly.
For example, in 1993 they turned wonderful Accord into... Or great CRX into Del Sol. Both moves were bad. This Pilot looks like it going to be similar experience for Honda.
Tony,
We don't run spy photos here for a number of reasons. But we will have plenty of original content with the real thing, up close tomorrow.
As to your overall point. I don't think the current Pilot is that attractive. People buy it for utility. The new one looks to keep that trend alive.
Sales of the current Pilot have been slipping as of late. Either folks are waiting on the new model or as a result of gas prices. Likely the latter. Gas prices are likely to continue to go up and when they do level off we will not likely see $3 gallon any more. The only way to to sell a larger SUV now would be to make it extremely worhwhile at the pump (which is not likely) or to make the design so unique and edgey that peeple want to buy it anyway. Honda has done neither with the new Pilot.
I have seen pics of the new Pilot uncovered, it does look just like the protoype with the exception of the headlights....My biggest concern is. I am 5'11" my hubby is 6'3", son 6'4" daughter 5'10..get the picture. I want to know about interior room in ALL 3 ROWS!! I can't wait to see your review.
Dave T.,
you're right!
Current Pilot's design is not super attractive but has sense of proportion.
New Pilot looks like a freshly cut tree trunk which didn't go through the mill just yet. Almost like inflated Nissan Cube, sort of...
Also, definition of attractiveness is different for each human. This is just my opinion...
Add to the bulky look trucky interior and I can safely say, "Highlander" will be the winner out of all deal.
Cheryl,
If it's not answered in the review we'll have full specs on the interior room. Mike is 6'1" I believe.
Tony,
The CD is much better styled than the CB in my opinion. With better aerodynamics and a sleeker look instead of a boxy looking car.
But I have to say that the facelifted CD is better than the pre-facelift ones.
J,
kill me, I don't know what are you saying or talking about. CD, CB....
Elaborate, please
Tony,
CB (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Accord#Fourth_generation_.281990.E2.80.931993.29)
CD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Accord#Fifth_generation_.281994.E2.80.931997.29)
(Don't you just love how Wikipedia has the job done?) :D
Hope the new one has a little improvement on the mpg's. If it doesn't then it won't sell like the the previous model. 20 mpg won't do when you can get a minivan at 25 mpg or the Highlander at 24.
Ziggy,
that will be answered tomorrow
seems to be a lot of hate towards the new pilot. But, lets be real here, honda is not making the pilot to be super stylish, it is making the pilot is to a reliable, pratical, affordable large crossover. Period, end of story. im sure it will be near the top of the class. Curous to see if honda puts a 6 speed auto in it or not though to maz out the mph
J,
when 93 Accords came out, I remember that nobody was impressed, especially, when they looked ar 1993 Camry.
Read this:

Accord sales went down 35%. Do you think, making a car smaller and less attractive (not in your opinion) had anything to do with it?
Imagine a BMW that didn't look like BMW. That was happened to Accord that year. And people needed some time to get used to it.
And guess what?
It takes time to get used to it. So what counts is the total sales.
I am not sure about that statement, J. I think, Camry was the best seller every year sinse.
