Cars.com Reviews the 2009 Honda Pilot

2009hondapilot

Here it is folks. The review you’ve all been waiting for. OK, the single guys and gals out there probably weren’t waiting for it, but a lot of families out there will be interested to hear what Mike Hanley has to say about the redesigned 2009 Honda Pilot. It has two things going for it right out of the gate — more horsepower and better fuel economy. That’s hard to beat.

I really can't say im that impressed. Im sure it will be a fine vehicle, because its a Honda, but it really isn't that much of an improvement over the old Pilot. Compared to the Highlander (which im assuming will be its biggest competitor) it gets worse fuel mileage, has 30 less HP and is no longer bigger (than the Highlander). Looks to me like the Highlanders will continue to fly off the lots....

Jenki,
I don't think 1 mpg difference will sway buyers in this range of vehicle.

Also not sure where you see the Highlander as being bigger? The Pilot has more cargo room.

I think both vehicles will do well.

But when people will get into Highlander, everything else will just accumulate on top of it, the mileage, the styling, etc

Tony,
Having not sat in a Pilot I can't really make a call either way. From what Mike says it hits all the marks on what you'd want in a crossover. We also like the Highlander. But before sitting in it I don't think I can make the call. Plus, the Accord's new design totally won me over in person. maybe this will do the same. Although I think with Pilot owners that's never been the biggest deal.

Possibilities are endless.
I just had here my opinion.

I think Dave has this one right. My wife and I got to see up close the Pilot and test drove extensively the current Highlander. Although we are current Highlander owners we will be purchasing the new Pilot. Why? Honda's rock solid reputation for quality, good dealer reputation in my area, reliability and durability that are above average, and we do like the look of the Pilot slightly better as it's more defining. As far as hp is concerned we don't pay attention to it as our other car, 530i, has less hp than many of it's competitors, but does not drive that way. When all is said and done you have to drive the vehicle. We were fortunate to have test drove the Pilot after the Philadelphia car show as a local dealer granted us a special invite. We thought the Pilot drove better and had a nicer interior than the current Highlander. We are sold.
Dave, thanks for covering the Pilot extensively as it wouldn't have crossed our radar until you guys posted the new pics some time ago.

Thanks for the feedback Paul!
Definitely let us know if you buy one and write a consumer review!
