Play Ball: Boston Red Sox Special Edition Volvo C30

Red Sox Volvo C30

We’ve seen more special editions than we can count here at Cars.com. Usually they’re just gussied-up versions of aging models meant to help them sell better. Volvo’s latest special offering, however, is a whole new ballgame. The company has a partnership with the Boston Red Sox and is building a limited run of its new C30 hatchback to commemorate the team’s championship season in 2007.

Volvo will build 107 of the C30s, in reference to the team’s 107 wins in ‘07. Each will have a plaque telling owners which of the 107 wins the car is commemorating. They’re finished in Passion Red paint with team logos on the fenders and rear glass hatch, as well as on the floormats. There’s also matte-silver finish on the mirrors and grille, plus a hefty array of features, including an alarm, fog lights, heated front seats, sport shifter and pedals, and a beefed-up audio system.

All the special editions come with a five-speed automatic and 227-hp, turbocharged five-cylinder engine and will cost $29,465, not including a $745 destination charge. That’s compared to the C30 2.0’s MSRP of $25,700. Of course, the special editions will only be sold at select New England Volvo dealers. A few more photos are below.

Tacky...especially the plaque above the stereo.
But I'm sure they'll all find a home.

Is it April Fool's Day already?

The ladies here will eat it up.

How about a Yankees version in pinstripes! They could make only 26 of them...one for each world championship.

Or for Cubs fans 101 limited run for each year since the last world series win.
This year's the year I tell ya.

this thing come in AWD? here in Boston AWD is hot. and it's so ugly in the back, like they couldn't figure what to do with it and got a big sword and chopped the end off obliquely

Because the Bo Sox needed more recognition....

This car makes my ass tired.

It doesn't look like it took Volvo too much to make this (just a few badges and some floormats really), so why not make an addition for every team? It looks like the "sports" (haha!) package could be dealer installed. Just get one of the right color, any options you want, and buy a $200 or so set of decals and mats that the dealer puts on before you drive off the lot. I could see it being popular with fans of any team in any sport.

I think it looks awesome!

So they stuck a plastic plague above the radio (probably with two sided tape) a Red Sox decal in the back, logo floor mats, and a couple logo pieces on the body (more two sided tape) and that makes it a limited edition? I added up about $20 bucks for all these fancy features, how are they getting an extra $4k over the regular model?
