Question of the Day: What Cars Will Be Available With Diesel Engines for 2008?

Askktpromobutton

We at KickingTires have made it clear that we are very intrigued by the potential of clean diesel technology and its impact as an alternative to gasoline engines. Unfortunately, the American car buyer doesn’t seem to share our interest. While diesels are all the rage in Europe, they have yet to catch on in the States. Ask.cars.com has the scoop on diesels available in the U.S. this year.

This is a statement I keep reading and it makes no sense.

How can they "catch on" if they are not and have not been available in this country?

(Besides the largest trucks and VW's for a period that happened to coincide with a period of low gas prices.)

If major car companies began widely selling and marketing efficient diesels as they did with SUV's - I think that might go a ways towards growing interest. I'd buy one, and it would be first my new car purchase.

But to keep saying American car buyers aren't interested in something that's not for sale and which few know about ... seems to be missing the point.

I was told throughout my education that simply put; trees and plants need carbon dioxide to survive, people need the oxygen that plants produce. Everything, including people, emit carbon dioxide. If we eliminate CO2 won't the plants die and soon after,us? I always thought the waste product of combustion is carbon monoxide. Where have I gone wrong??
