Video: VW Routan vs. Chrysler Town & Country

VW Routan vs. Chrysler Town & Country Video

Volkswagen's minibus is perhaps the most iconic van of all time. Now the automaker is getting back into the van game, but with a model — the Routan — that is completely different from its old minibus; it’s based on Chrysler's minivans. In this video, we compare the new Routan with a Chrysler Town & Country to see where they're the same and where they differ. You can share this video via YouTube.

Mr. He

Man, nice suit, but ditch the annoying music over the video. It's so 'snot-nosed, myspace'.

John

I can't see what the huge problem of basing the Routan on the Chrysler, other than driving dynamics which shouldn't be the primary concern in a minivan. Chrysler's reliability scores are higher than those of VW.

Is "Routan" just an anagram of "Touran"? LOL

What about a 'diesel' option ... is it coming?

Mr. O

We really want a diesel!

lol I have good laugh over there . . .

Matthias Poppel

Why no Diesel or Hybrid? Pretty disappointing that none of the new mini-vans offer better mpg powertrain concpets.

John

There is no diesel option because 'most' Americans don't want to touch a diesel. I'm with you, I wish they'd offer one and think diesel is smart but diesel sales have always been a small niche here. Maybe that will change but not yet. Offering a diesel at this point is a big financial risk, especially in the present bad economy (with the diesel costing thousands extra) and with falling gas prices.
