Cadillac, Saab, Hummer Dealers Next to Consolidate

Cadillacsaab

At an important convention of automotive dealers this weekend, GM chief executive Rick Wagoner said the company is stepping up efforts to consolidate its three luxury brands, Cadillac, Saab and Hummer. Much like recent moves to bring all remaining Pontiac, GMC and Buick dealers under one roof, this move would save GM money.

Unlike the Pontiac, GMC, Buick trio, the three luxury brands don’t really share the same platforms, and there wouldn’t be a cut in the number of models each offers.

We’re not sure how luxury shoppers, especially those interested in Saabs, will feel about going to a showroom sharing the floor with Hummer. The changes won’t happen swiftly; Wagoner pointed out that the Pontiac, GMC, Buick consolidation has taken roughly five years and still isn’t complete.

"Unlike the Pontiac, GMC, Buick trio, the three luxury brands don’t really share the same platforms"

The next Cadillac crossover (BRX) and the Saab 9-4x will share a platform.

It's still to be seen if those models are released in the U.S. As always we don't speculate on anything that hasn't been officially released because trends can change rapidly.

Actually there aren't too many of the other three brands that share the same platforms either come to think of it.

I am just thinking that once pretty popular among some people Saabs are no longer sell as well. Way over-priced for what they are...
Is there any profit selling them here? Who buys Saab these days? I don't see any on the road.
Are their days numbered?

Tony,
There have been lots of rumors about Saab being sold but I think GM is ready to invest more into it. When the AWD 9-3 comes out this spring I think that will help with sales since it'll probably be less money than an A4 quattro.

The revisions they did recently are actually pretty decent and the 9-3 is still fun to drive. The interior needs some updating though.

Hey Tony, Plenty of Saabs on the roads here in New England. Definitely a niche company - not sure if Saab buyers would want to be seen going into a Hummer dealer.

why do they want to consolidate those three cars?
